Trade for a starter or...

bobskube
I said this two years ago, but trading Cruz in the Lee deal was foolish. If the brewers would've kept him, getting rid of Hart or Cruz would've added a key chip in any trade.

I'm still not sure I can lose too much sleep over a 28 year old who we traded 4 years ago who can't really hit lefties and has a career .785 OPS so far in an extreme hitters park. I need to see him finish off this season with an .850+ OPS before it starts to bother me much and then even then who knows if he would have done the same thing as a Brewer.

The "most people" you refer to are those that wanted him to succeed and looked for an excuse when he didn't or were just plain wrong.

The people I refer to are the ones who said Parra shouldn't pitch more than 153-163 innings in 2008 because his previous high was 133. This was said by many people, including myself, previous to the 2008 season. This isn't looking for excuses after the fact.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

There was no real reason to expect Parra to fall apart the way he has given his career numbers. There is no real reason to think he can't become an effective major league starter even after what he has done this season. It just comes down to making adjustments so he can throw strikes again.

Yes, there was a real reason to expect Parra to fall apart--close direct observation, like a scientist watching an experiment. Many people who watched Parra are not surprised he imploded. Close observation would also conclude that there are many reasons why he may recover and be effective again.

Any GM should always be on the outlook for a trade that helps the team. Maybe I'm being picky, but I'm sure Melvin is always looking for a front of the rotation type of starter. The don't grow on trees. I am against a rent-a-player type of move this year. On the other hand, if a trade can be made for a #2 tye of starting pitcher with a few years left on his contract, I would take a hard look at trading any combination of Cameron, Hall, Hart, Hardy, Kendall, Suppan, McClung, etc. Even Hoffman depending on where the Brewers are in August.

Counting his 2-1/3 innings in the playoffs, he pitched a total of 168 1/3rd innings in 2008. I don't think you can accuse the Brewers of abusing him last year. In fact, when he appeared fatigued late in the year they basically shut him down for the season.
