Sell, sell, sell?

As far as the topic at hand...let's say the Brewers can win again today and the Cardinals lose again (knock on wood). Suddenly the Brewers are only 1.5 games out of first place. As we've said before, the next month should be an easy schedule for the Brewers. They could easily gain some steam going into September (which granted will be tougher...but they'll just have to play well against division opponents).

Melvin is in a really tough position right now. It's too bad the Brewers couldn't have played even just a bit better over the past few weeks. It would be obvious that an acquisition would have to be made, but right now it's really tough to tell how good or bad this team is. They're a game over .500 which isn't stellar, yet they're still in close contention in a mediocre and winnable division.

Brett Gardner from the Yankees was just put on the DL . Dont know how long he will be on it. I think they were playing a 4 man out field rotation of Damon,Gardner,Cabrera & Swisher. Dont know if they are a possibility.

players i'm against selling: Yo Gallardo, Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Hoffman, Stetter

Hardy I don't mind because we have Escobar and Hart because we have Cat to fill in the rest of the season. They both Cat and Escobar can easily produce as much as Hardy and Hart have this season. So if we trade both off them we'd still be just as competitive I think.

Cameron I don't mind at all and hopefully if we did Gerut would finally get in and his bat would wake up.

We can sell the rest of our rotation and bullpen..... can't get much worse

I'd love any team that would take Suppan or Hall off our hands. I still like Billy but he needs a new start and a team that would give him a chance to get himself turned around. I'd eat part of his contract and not ask for that much. What good does we do for us getting maybe 3 at bats a week for 7-8 million a year?

the promblem with the soft scheduled does not mean anything if the crew plays like they have been. The Crew needs to go 3-1 aganist the Nats or else we can be in serious seller mode
I agree that the Brewers absolutely have to take at least 3 out of 4 against the Nats. Even just splitting that series 2-2 would be horrible and might change DM's thinking about the buy or sell issue.

I would agree with all of those except Hoffman. He's not part of the long-term plan, and is only signed for this year so there is no guarantee that he will be back next year. If we do switch to seller mode, what good does Hoffman do us when a proven closer could potentially be a hot commodity at the deadline for a playoff contender looking to patch up the back of their bullpen? I would agree that he is unlikely to be dealt, however, since trading Hoffman would clearly indicate to the fans that the team has given up on the year.

Why not re-sell Lopez? How about Counsell and Kendall too? Hoffman and Cameron go without question. Somebody might overpay for Looper too. Catalanotto has some value too.

Play Gamel, McGehee, Escobar, Bourgeois, Salome and Heether along with Braun and Fielder the rest of the way.

Might as well go for as high in the draft as you can get.

Sell the whole stupid pitching staff except Gallardo. This will be one interesting trading deadline and offseason, if we go into next year with another very mediocre/poor starting rotation I am going to freak. OUr window with our best offensive player (Fielder) is shrinking fast and you would hate to miss out on title contention because of a horrible pitching staff.

It will never happen. It makes sense, but it will never happen. We play enough games against everyone in front of us to make up the ground. We won't do it, but that will be the argument with 3 million fans in the stands.

Can you imagine overpaying for Washburn at this point. I do hope that Melvin has at least written down some "sell" packages so he ready to make some deals. Unfortunately, as the deadline nears, all major league players' value diminishes somewhat. IMO, dealing a player like Hardy might be better in the off-season. On the other hand, expiring contracts I would move for some prospects.

C'mon Doug!
