Sell, sell, sell?

I actually like that free agent list as opposed to most other years. We are going to have to our darndest to pedal Hardy for our #2 or at least #3, but I have confidence we can fill the other through one of those names, provided Doug learns his lesson from this year and will go market value for a #3 type.

Only Pineiro, Lackey, and a maybe on Schmidt and Pavano. Schmidt might be a good buy low option in free agency depending on how well he does the rest of this season but if he does do well I doubt the Dodgers will let him go since Schmidt will be a good and cheap #4 or #5 option in their rotation.

Pineiro will be an interesting option. If the Cardinals resign Holliday they may not have enough to resign Pineiro who will probably be looking at a multiple year deal in the range of $10-13 million a year. Pineiro is having a great year with the Cardinals and maybe fluky with his ERA but I believe he is still a good #3 or #4 option for the Brewers. Pineiro's GB% has increased this year and his LD% and FB% have also decreased this year. Though his BABIP is the lowest it has been since 2003 when he was with Seattle so he maybe getting lucky.

Other than a trade the free agent list for next year looks very bleak.

Can we stop buying pitchers that Dave Duncan made look good? Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you, fool me three times and I deserve to be fired. This pool is the kind that turns Suppan into a $12m a year pitcher. You have 4 guys with talent but huge injury concerns (Lackey, Escobar, Bedard, and Harden) and two guys playing above their heads (Washburn and Pinero).

I completely agree about staying away from Cardinal pitchers that Duncan has resurected. Once these guys leave him (Suppan and Looper) they go back to their old sucky ways. I also agree that Melvin has to stop picking up all these soft tossers. From Suppan to Looper Ive had enough of guys that cant strike anyone out. This organization needs some power arms.

Pineiro is not playing over his head though. Pineiro is just getting lucky in terms of his BABIP being so low right now but that is still near his career norms in terms of BABIP being only .016 away from his career BABIP numbers. Pineiro is a fourish ERA pitcher with a career FIP of 4.24 I believe Pineiro would be a good #4 starter for the Brewers if the money is right. Basically that is the only type of player I see the Brewers being able to bring in this off season. It will be either Schmidt or Pineiro and you better pray and hope that it isn't Wellemeyer.

I have a feeling we may want to "sting" the Cubs and give Harden a serious offer. Also, we were rumored to want Bedard moreso than Washburn a month or so ago, so he may be a buy low option due to his injury history if we are willing to risk it. Those are two names I will be following anyway.

Pineiro is most certainly playing above his head. His BB/9 right now is 0.99, for his career its 2.63. If you're paying him at as a 4.5 ERA guy sure, but he's pitching as a sub 3 guy and will likely be paid as such.

His BB/9 being low is just statistical noise and not much of anything else. I doubt he is actually walking less this year because of his command or anything Duncan has done for him. It is more than likely have to do with him putting more balls in play though his K/9 is also rather high for him.

Looking at a guy from what he did from one year ago is a very nearsighted way to look at things and I doubt GM's look at only what they did the year before. If a GM does do that then they deserve to be fired because there is no way you can get a real good look at what a player can do if you just look at what they did the year before.
