WI wins game 1, nice games from all of the pitchers. Marseco (3), Kemp (2), Vass (2), Duran (2) all with multi hit games. Sanchez with another 2B.

WI looks to be down early in game 2, box score isn't updating after a bunt single to start the frame against Frederickson. Just tuned into the game, WI down 2-0 going to the bottom of the 2nd.

Nashville scoreless and hitless in the 3rd.

Huntsville up 1-0 in the 4th, both Lucroy and Green have hits.

Final: Birmingham (White Sox) 8, Huntsville 1

Huntsville Site Game Summary

Division Title Still Undecided Heading Into Final Game

Stars Fall Again In Birmingham

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

Daniel Hudson tossed seven strong innings in his double-A debut and another big, late inning rally broke open a close game and carried Birmingham to an 8-1 win over Huntsville Saturday night in the fifth of a six-game set at Regions Park. The Stars have lost a season-high six straight games to fall to 37-31 but remain in a first place tie in the North Division with Carolina, which was shutout at Tennessee, with one game to go in the first half. The Barons improved to 48-20, the most wins for any team in organized professional baseball, with their tenth consecutive victory.

Hudson retired the first two hitters in the first inning before Drew Anderson walked, stole second base, advanced to third base on an errant throw by catcher Jared Price and scored when center fielder John Shelby overran the ball. Hudson allowed three hits and did not allow another runner past second base over his final six innings of work. He struck out eight, walked two and was followed by Cleveland Santeliz and Fernando Hernandez, who each tossed a scoreless frame and combined to not allow a hit after a Taylor Green leadoff single in the fifth inning.

Bobby Bramhall kept the Barons hitless until Dayan Viciedo's opposite field home run to right-center field tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Price doubled with one out in the fifth, moved to third base on a groundball out and scored on a wild pitch to give the home side its first lead of the night at 2-1. Bramhall was lifted after six innings, trailing by that same one run margin, allowing five hits, walking two and fanning five and fell to 3-4 on the season.

Mike McClendon, who gave up the decisive runs in the seventh inning on Wednesday, took over in the seventh again tonight and was one out away from getting out of the frame with the Stars trailing 3-1. Instead, a Green throwing error opened the door for five more runs to score, highlighted by a two-run Lee Cruz double and run-scoring hits by Javier Colina and Christian Marrero, who has knocked in six runs in three games. McClendon was charged with six runs, all unearned as a result of two errors in the inning, on four hits, while recording two outs. Juan Sandoval finished up for the Stars by getting the last four outs.

The series and the first half of the season conclude Sunday afternoon with Huntsville right-hander Mark Holliman taking the hill against Barons' right-hander Kyle McCulloch. Coverage of the game begins at 1:50 PM central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score

Starter Bobby Bramhall did his part; Taylor Green struggling defensively at third base as of late, his 6th error here; golden sombrero for leadoff man Adam Stern (0-for-4 with four K's) -- Stern had only struck out 29 times in 256 AB's prior to this game; in general, this team makes amazing contact generally -- Drew Anderson and Kevin Melillo lead the team with only 36 K's apiece; second game back for SS Yohannis Perez after a week-long absence, 0-for-6 since coming back...

The White Sox should just swap these boys en masse into the NL Central, they'd probably do just fine...

Final, Game One: Wisconsin 7, Kane County (Athletics) 2

Wisconsin Site Game One Summary

Game one goes to Wisconsin

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GENEVA, IL -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers banged out 11 hits in game one of a doubleheader at Elfstrom Stadium and beat the Kane County Cougars 7-2. John Delaney and Michael Vass had two RBI apiece and the Rattlers kept the Cougars from clinching a Midwest League playoff spot.

Delaney's two-out RBI single in the first inning put the Rattlers (34-34) in front. Juan Sanchez put Wisconsin up 2-0 with an RBI double in the top of the second inning.

Wisconsin knocked Kane County starting pitcher Matt Fitts out of the game in the third inning. Fitts walked the first two hitters of the inning. Jose Duran followed with an RBI double. Vass delivered a two-run single for a 5-0 lead and Fitts was pulled from the game.

Reliever Trey Barham walked the first batter he faced and -- after a strikeout -- gave up an infield single to Michael Marseco that loaded the bases. Corey Kemp put the Rattlers up 6-0 with an RBI single and Delaney made it 7-0.

Kane County (39-29) got to Rattlers starter Alex Periard in the bottom of the third inning. A two-out RBI single by Steve Kleen cut the Wisconsin lead to six, but Periard got out of the frame and stranded two Cougars base runners.

Periard reached his pitch count with two outs and a runner at first in the bottom of the fourth. Liam Ohlmann relieved and got the final out of the frame.

Then, Wily Peralta came on for the bottom of the fifth. He would pitch three innings, allow one run on four hits, and strike out four to pick up his second win of the season.

Wisconsin Game One Box Score

Eight groundball outs for Alex Periard -- nice work within his pitch limit; Wily Peralta has only allowed one home run in 54.1 innings, and the 67-to-16 K-to-BB ratio shines, can't wait to see him move along; outfielder Michael Vass is already 24 years old, but give him credit for a recent surge, 12-for-28 with five walks in his last ten games; two walks for Chris Dennis...

Final, Game Two: Kane County (Athletics) 2, Wisconsin 0

Wisconsin Site Game Two Summary

Kane County gets the split

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GENEVA, IL -- Anthony Capra pitched six shutout innings and the Kane County Cougars beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2-0 in game two of a doubleheader at Elfstrom Stadium. Capra struck out five, allowed two hits, and didn't walk a batter for the win. Jason Christian provided some of the offense and a key defensive play to help Kane County to the win.

The Cougars (40-29) struck early. In the first inning, Rattlers starting pitcher Evan Frederickson was touched for a pair of runs. A leadoff bunt single by Christian and a sacrifice bunt by Matt Ray put Christian at second. After a passed ball on a walk to the third Cougars batter put runners at the corners, Frederickson uncorked a wild pitch to allow Christian to score the first run of the game. Later in the frame, an RBI grounder by Grant Desme made it 2-0 Kane County.

Kane County starting pitcher Anthony Capra made that lead stand through six innings. Michael Vass singled to lead off the Rattler sixth and took second on a stolen base. Juan Sanchez stepped to the plate with two outs and lined a pitch that looked like it was ticketed for the left field corner. However, Christian, the starting third baseman for the West Division in the upcoming Midwest League All-Star Game, made a leaping grab to snare the liner and preserve the shutout for Capra.

Mickey Storey came on in the seventh and retired the side in order to close out the game for his ninth save.

Wisconsin's record dips back below the .500 mark to 34-35 with one game remaining in the half.

The final game of the first half of the Midwest League season is Sunday afternoon. Cody Adams (1-4, 5.06) is the scheduled starter for the Rattlers. Kane County will send Shawn Haviland (4-3, 3.59) to the mound. Game time is 1:00 PM.

Wisconsin Box Score

Brett Lawrie was the DH and had one of the two Rattler hits...

Final: Oklahoma City (Rangers) 5, Nashville 4

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Sounds lose to Oklahoma City on 9th-inning homer

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City catcher Max Ramirez belted a two-out, two-run home run off R.J. Swindle in the bottom of the ninth inning to power the RedHawks to a last at-bat, 5-4 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Saturday evening at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

Ramirez's blast, which also scored Joaquin Arias, was his third of the year and resulted in the fourth last at-bat defeat of the year for Nashville (41-29).

The top of the order continued to get it done for Nashville as leadoff man Jason Bourgeois turned in his ninth multiple-hit effort in his last 12 games with a 2-for-4 evening. Alcides Escobar also went 2-for-4 for the Sounds.

Right fielder Brendan Katin gave the Sounds a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run double to left off Oklahoma City starter Bryan Corey.

The RedHawks evened the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the frame when Emerson Frostad led off with a single then scored on Greg Golson's RBI double to right that was misplayed by Katin, allowing Golson to come all the way around to score the tying run.

Nashville pulled back ahead in the top of the fifth. Catcher Angel Salome led off with a double to left then scored the go-ahead run later in the frame on Cole Gillespie's sacrifice fly. Hernan Iribarren pushed the lead to 4-2 when he singled home Bourgeois.

Oklahoma City pulled back within a run at 4-3 in the sixth when Casey Benjamin scored on a Steven Murphy sacrifice fly.

Neither team scored again until the decisive ninth.

RedHawks reliever Brian Gordon (5-2) was the beneficiary of the late Oklahoma City rally, recording the victory after working one scoreless inning. Swindle (2-1) was handed the defeat after suffering his second blown save of the year.

Mike Burns was denied his team-leading eighth victory of the year for the Sounds as a result of the blown save. The right-hander allowed three runs (one earned) on 10 hits over 7 1/3 innings of work, his ninth quality start of the season, to drop his ERA to 2.55 on the year.

The teams wrap up the series with 4:05 PM finale on Sunday afternoon. Left-hander Chase Wright (4-5, 4.09) will start for Nashville against RedHawks right-hander Neftali Perez (3-5, 4.04).

Evan Frederickson, since the beginning of May, has been Wisconsin's best pitcher, with an ERA of 3.25. He just doesn't give up extra base hits.
