Alex Sanchez starting in CF for Marlins? (They need Brady)

aracko

Per the Miami Herald:

Marlins general manager Larry Beinfest said that newly acquired outfielder Alex Sanchez could win the starting centerfield position in spring training. ``He's had a lot of success in the big leagues. We like his speed. He can bunt. He can do a lot of things that put pressure on people."

I propose that we pick up half of Bradys salary and send him to Florida. I reallu like that Sinkbeil kid

that sounds a little bizarre that the marlins would even suggest Sanchez could be their starting centerfielder. they went through last year with several young centerfielders. they even traded one away.

Sanchez does have speed. however, he has a lot of negatives. I think the statement tha t Sanchez has a chance to be their starting centerfielder was just positive spin given out by the marlins. What were they supposed to say after they signed him? that he could start for their AA team?

if the brewers signed Borchard who I believe is available, I think they'd also say he has a chance to be their starting center fielder. I've heard the brewers say gwynn could be their starting center fielder. that doesn't mean it's close to reality.

Sanchez? if he gets his act together and goes out and wins a job, I'll give him credit.

The guy to trade to the Marlins is Gwynn.

Name recognition, young and fast. Right up the Marlins alley. Brady has more experience and would make a great depth player for us this year. He's also a scrappy player who I love to watch.

I would bet we would be able to pry one of their good young pitchers out of the minors for him. You can never have enough pitching and let's be honest. Where exactly is Gwynn going to play? Hall, Gross and Hart should become fixtures for the next several years and I'd love to keep a guy like Clark to be the 4th outfielder.

"Where exactly is Gwynn going to play"?

Center field for Nashville in 07. If he adds 25 points to his BA and 35 points to his OBP there and cuts his K's by 20%, he stands a good chance of being the Brewer leadoff man and CF in 08.

That would allow them to move Hall to LF where they wanted him to move this year when they were courting Dave Roberts. It would also allow them to move Weeks down to 3rd in the batting order.

Gwynn is not chopped liver. He may need to work on a few things, but we are talking about a high second round pick not some FA career minor leaguer.

Clark figures to be the 25th man. At $4 million per year, he just might be the costliest 25th man in baseball. If any team would take him for half that price (the Brewers paying the rest), they should do it.

When the inevitable happens and one of our middle infielders gets hurt, I'd rather see Hall back in the infield and Gwynn in center than Graffy or Counsell starting.

All I'm saying is that we have the depth to move Gwynn.

I think he is going to develop into a solid major leaguer in a year or two. However I'd rather have more pitching depth and I think we could pry a pretty decent pitching prospect from Florida for him.

Gwynn would be a perfect fit for the Marlins, but I don't think pitching depth is a huge concern for the Brewers with the addition of Suppan. We already have one of the top rotations in the NL along with Villanueva, Gallardo, and Jackson in AAA.

We may have a lot of outfield depth, but we don't have a lot of depth in CF. Hall looks to be our CF this season, but he doesn't have a lot of experience there. Hart and Gross can play center, but both are better fit for corner outfield spots. Gwynn is by far the best defensive center fielder we have and has been improving offensively. I'd like to have him around in case of injury or if Billy can't handle center.

The guy to trade to the Marlins is Gwynn.

He is the only one that could be traded to Florida, since the Marlins have made it clear they are looking for a young CF (which eliminates Clark). I guess I can't blame them. They need to find a "CF of the future" type player, and none of their in-house players qualify as that most likely (Reed, Abercrombie, etc).

But, I dont' see the Brewers trading Gwynn now, unless they were bowled over by the offer from Florida. However, if Hall proves he can be a good centerfielder, I'm not sure there is room on the Brewers for Gwynn, at least not for a couple of years.

I think Clark would be a great pinch hitting backup OF.

Clark doesn't have a spot if Mench is on the team. You have Miller, Counsell and Graffanino on the bench for sure. Gross is almost a lock. Thats 4 players there. Anyone want to really go with the idea of the Brewers carrying only 11 pitchers? So its Clark vs Mench. And I'd rather see Graffy get the non-power PH ABs instead of Clark.

That said, no way does Florida want Clark without the Brewers picking up about $2 million in salary.
