Would you make this trade for Manny Ramirez?

Recommended Posts

Besides the fact that the only player out of that list the Red Sox would even consider trading is Turnbow they would also be not getting much salary relief (as if they need it) for about every below average over priced player we have.

So, yes if any team in the league would take that trade for a big bat then yes I am all about dumping our dead weight.

p.s. once Drew's shoulder blows out next season I wouldnt think it to far fetched that the Red Sox might show interest in a power hitting OF like Jenkins. I think if we dump Jenkins it will be before the trading deadline to some team who believes that they are still in it with an injury to a corner OF.

As others say, sure, the Brewers would, in a heartbeat. A truckload of crap for one of the premier players in the game. The thing about Manny is that the Red Sox are not in a position where they "have to" trade him. His salary is not a hindrance for them. The only reason they've shopped him is because he repeatedly asks to get traded. But as he asks to be traded, he continues to perform. So they're not going to just give him away, they're going to expect a good return.

Jenkins is on the downhill and declining.

Mench is average or below.

Counsell is old and not good.

Turnbow is coming off a terrible season.

Hendrickson is not a prospect.

Clark is a 34 year old corner outfielder with no power.

There's nothing in that batch aside from MAYBE Jenkins that the Sox would have any use for at all. There's no reason at all to think they'd be compelled to add so much crap to their roster for the ability to shed themselves of one of the best hitters in the game.

I'd offer something more like Ron Belliard, Tyler Houston, Jeffrey Hammonds, Henry Blanco, Nick Nuegebauer, nd Jeff D'Amico for Manny Ramirez, of course this trade would have had to have been made on Opening Day, or right before, 2001 but it would be about the same, if not better than the one proposed.

Yes, I know my trade proposal is unrealistic. But you never know with Doug Melvin as our GM, righthttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anybody remember the Sexson trade? Of course then we gave up the superstar. What if we took Clark and Mench out of the deal and added Bush? That might at least make it a little interesting, although still unrealistic somewhat.

I think what it boils down to is that people would rather hash over "made up" trades that at least have some basis of possibility, something that could be tweaked here and there. This one, is really just a bunch of bad or old (or bad AND old) players for an absolute stud, which doesn't ever happen.

Didn't Doug Melvin actually try to get a deal done for Manny a couple years ago, but it would've come down to having to trade like twenty guys to even out the salary, roughly? My memory is a little hazy on that one, but it was before the trade deadline.

I love Manny Ramirez. Since he is playing LF and his defense does not have to even register a pulse on the life of a baseball team, I would say that he is one of the best players in all of baseball. If you can drive in 140, hit .330 and hit 40 HR I would trade all those guys AND Ben Sheets just to get him here on board.

That was a comment he made as a joke.

i just see all of our start as guys who really need to be there, as integral. it doesn't seem like we have the team to lose two of those players to pick up one. especially for one who's the anti-Bill Hall.

if a bunch or one of our platoon/backup players leaves, there's plenty of room to trim there, but it just doesn't seem like we are really missing that one big piece to make the team competitive.

and with as much trouble as the Sox have had trying to trade him, i could only see that if a problem arose that his enormous salary would really pigeonhole us for any future additions like Suppan or even resigning our current players.
