Crede?

With a younger Josh Fields almost ready for MLB action does anyone think Joe Crede could be availible? And if so, how much? They may need starting rotation help and we could move Braun to LF. Of course it will take more than just one SP, but just how much? Just throwing this out there, i have no idea if Crede would be availible. Thanx.

"We don't need him, we have an overload of of's the way it is so why bring someone in to move one more to the outfield, it just doesn't make sense."

If we dont sign the three that are possible FA Mench Jenks and Clark, we are left with Gross Hall and Hart for next year. I like Gross but as a 4th OFer. Then the Crew could leave Braun at AAA longer. But I did not know about Crede's back problems. Is it a disc? anyone know?

I get a lot of chisox info as my gf and her family are season ticket holders and i try to stay informed. supposedly the angels offered ervin santana and figgens for crede and garcia(this being a while back) and the declined, so even though he should be expendable for the sox(which even that im unsure of as their gm said they are not trading joe crede period in one interview), i dont think theyd take just any deal for him.

on a side note, I was looking at al's blog and he says he compiled a list of 8 guys he will post as guys who could be had and fit the "3b now, help us elsewhere when braun is ready" mold. should be interesting. The guy I was thinking of last night when perusing one of my season preview mags was Olmedo Saenz from the dodgers. they like him as a great pinch hitter, but with all their prospects on the cusp, there may be room to deal him for a mid level guy or two. yeah hes in his upper 30s, but he isnt that expensive and hes kinda the right handed gabe gross, puts up great numbers while absolutely murdering left-handers. He can play 3rd and the OF so maybe try to keep him for a couple years, play 3rd now til koskies back for him to platoon with, and then when the braun era starts, platoon him with gross next year as the menchkins lite(now with better stats and at 10% the cost).

Wow, 2nd mention of my 8 guys list. I should have freelanced that puppy.:)

Neither Crede or Saenz are on it, by the way. I did not include starters and Crede is still the White Sox 3B. I did not consider Saenz to be anything but a RH platoon guy, which I feel Graffy can do fine.

Crede being a FA after the '08 season and having his agent as Scott Boras may actually make him more easily available.

Probably not right now, as vacin8r mentioned, there have been some pretty notable names involved with Crede rumors, far too much for what the Brewers should give up to get a guy like him. He's good, but not good to the point where you go out of your way to acquire him.

Although I'm not sure I believe the Santana/Figgins for Crede/Garcia rumor, since you would have to be crazy to turn down that deal IMO.

A year ago, I wouldn't have done that deal. Now...it goes without saying but look at everything that has happened. Also, from all the reports, it seems that Josh Fields is being moved to the outfield, and they are going to make a concerted effort to resign Crede, which is evidenced by their expulsion of over-priced pitchers.

In the same boat Colby. Angels are not ones to deal young players. Santana is one of their great young arms so I don't see them moving him for those players.

Perhaps the Angels learned their lesson of hording prospects after the Dallas fiasco and Mathis' demise. You can only start one pitcher and eight position players per game...

I think you're learning the wrong lesson. Prospects flame out, get as many as you can. Get three players for Overbay, get two for Ginter, get six for Sexon...

And when your 40-man (or 25 man) roster is filled with A-Ball and AA fodder, what do you do? Sometimes it is best to do a quantity for quality (which is where I think our organization needs to be heading, but that's for another thread). Also, for all their hording, who are the Cali Angels starting at the hot corner? And how is Jeff Mathis' ascension to the backstop throne going at present? For that matter, who was the last homegrown position prospect for Arte to actually live up to expectations? Wait for it... Wait for it... Much like Ryan Reynolds, I'm still WAITING.

What an odd statement. Sam already said everything I could in response to this comment, but I'll had that the Angels had real, future plans with both McPherson and Mathis. It's not like they were just holding onto them, or "hording" them for kicks and giggles.

I would just like to point out that Ervin Santana isn't even a prospect anymore. He's one of the better, younger up and coming stars in baseball IMO, and if he were on my team I wouldn't trade him for a package of Garcia and Crede, much less including Figgins into the deal. You just don't deal away talented young pitching like that unless the deal is a no-brainer, which usually means it will never happen.

" it seems that Josh Fields is being moved to the outfield"

Just wondering where you might have got that info at? I couldnt find anything on that. So why would they go after Erstad? They already have their OF set Pod Anderson/Mackowiak and Dye factor in Erstad and Ozuna. Granted they could use some power out there.

Danny there has been speculation of that going on all offseason. I know I read it in both the Sporting News and Sports Weekly this winter. Old school as I get these these in paper form. Can never have enough material to use when you have to do some thinking.

if Koskie is done, I think acquiring crede could be a good thing. he's a proven commodity. he's going to become a free agent. Sounds like a perrfect stop gap fit. the Brewers could offer him arby, and surely as a Scott boras client, boras is going to find a better offer. and we'd get a first round pick for him.

the problem we had with offering arby to graffy was that he had a lousy agent who didn't market graffy very well. I' m positive boras would be able to find Crede a new home. and then we could thank both crede and Boras for helping us out.

In reference to calling Santana a prospect, it was in regards to the proposed trade immediately following the demise of Josh Paul... Hence, Ervin Santana WAS considered, at the time, a prospect. And what I mean in reference to them HOARDING their prospects, I say it in regards to their reluctance to trade unproven depth (most notably the middle infield, though Callaspo was able to escape their clutches) for top quality hitters in their prime to protect "The Flailing One."
