Anyone know why the Cardinals released Tyler Herron?

nate82

I figured here would be a better place than in the transaction forum since people who know more about the minors would be looking here to answer my question. Why did the Cardinals release this 22 year old pitcher a former 1st rounder. Would the Brewers have any interest in him? Has anyone seen this guy pitch or know anything about him?

Did the Cardinals just give up on this guy?

Here's the story.

A significant drop in velocity and loss of command, it almost sounds like he's injured...

But why give up on a guy who is only 22 years old? It almost sounds like there is something personal going on between the two or maybe I am reading too much into this quote ""We need to give the valuable innings to other players who deserve the opportunity.""

That sounds like they are just giving up on him and have some kind of problem with the way he either handles himself or there is a personal problem that he needs to fix. It just doesn't make any sense for a team to give up on a guy who is only 22 years old this is like if the Brewers would have released Jeffress when he was struggling in AA. I just don't get this move at all unless there is something extremely wrong with this guy.

If I had to guess they don't like his make-up nor his decline in velocity and command. There certainly could be something personal out there as well.

Here's the thread about it from Future Redbirds. In the comments, there's a quote from a Post-Dispatch chat:

He apparently did little to impress the major-league staff and, according to some in the organization, had coachability issues.
As one of the other comments says, the fact that they're repeatedly saying it was only a performance-based move leads you to believe the exact opposite.

Herron must of untucked his jersey during a game. The Cardinals love those types of gestures http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
