Proposed Pirate Trade

bando1234

Pirates get:

Jenks

Turnbow

M Rivera

Jenks gets his wish, although he would probally have to share some time with Nady, Turnbow comes in as the closer since Gonzalez was traded. While they are pretty stocked at the catcher position, Neil Walker is no where towards close, Maldonando is not major league tested & Doumit does not look like he can hit major leage pitching same as Cota. Rivera looks like a nice backup.

Brewers get:

Jose Bautista

Damaso Marte

Jose becomes the semi regular 3rd baseman until Braun arrives which he(Bautista) steps into the semi super sub role since he can play 2nd & the OF. Marte would become the other lefty in the pen.

Just browsing the 07 rosters tonight. Also thought of Hector Luna of the Indian to play 3rd. I know Quinlans name has come up on another thread. Mike Morse name came to mind too. Just some ideas.

Bautista?

I suppose he has some versatility and power but he doesn't hit for average, can't run, strikes out a lot and he's not all that young. There are guys off the street I'd take over him if I thought I needed help at 3rd, but I don't. Braun is much better than Bautista right now.

Turnbow for Marte? Maybe worth the risk. I'm in the camp that any return to form for Turnbow will be temporary based on his entire up and down pro career. But Marte doesn't excite me much. He couldn't handle pressure in Chicago.

As for Rivera, I keep hoping the Yankees come to the realization this spring that the mopes they have backing up Posada are inadequate (Todd Pratt are you kidding me?) and that they make us a good offer for Miller so we can keep Rivera who I prefer over Miller right now anyway.

The pirates already have 2 catchers they like on the roster so not sure they'd really want rivera. I think I'd rather just play Braun at 3B than do this deal because if Turnbow does turn it around he has a lot of trade value and Marte is just a declining loogy at this point.

But the feeling I'm getting from Yost is that he would much rather give Braun some seasoning in the minors and let Grafannino play 3rd. I'm on the fence as to whether I want Braun up right away, if he is as defensively challenged as advertised, an infield consisting of Weeks, Fielder, and Braun is good for an error a game.

Yeah me too, I've been hoping the Yankees would offer a trade for Miller since Christmas. Maybe Darrell Rasner for Miller?

I'd prefer Rivera to Miller for his durability, bat, age and cost. Moreover, Rivera is out of options and I'd hate to lose him over Miller come end of spring.

I don't know if the Brewers are getting fair value for Mench in that deal. He only had one half of a poor season, otherwise he is a VERY solid outfielder. When he was initially traded, there was talk of him being a 30 - 40 HR type guy. If that's all we can get for Mench, I say better to keep him on the chance he comes back this year than trade him off for a situational lefty.
