Well, what do we think? Any salary we can send them that they'd realistically take? You always want to start at Billy Hall, then realize that isn't going to happen. Suppan has that extra year too, so I doubt that would work. Looper maybe, but that isn't really an upgrade for us then in all liklihood. Not sure we have a match for them unless they are willing to pay salary for us.

If he clears waivers and declares free agency, then I'd say sign him for under $1mil and use him to fill in if Parra continues to struggle, or another pitcher goes down. I wouldn't want to trade for him and have to pay that salary unless they took Hall or Suppan, which would free up the Brewers for next year. I highly doubt that would ever happen. What's the club buyout for 2010?

I'd happily take him if we could get them to eat part of his contract. If they'd eat $4 million, the remaining $4m is worth it. If they would take Hall's contract, I'd do it straight-up. It would give us an innings-eater who should be able to manage an ERA around 4-4.25 in the NL and away from Arlington. We'd then have Heether or Iribarren to replace Hall as the utility infielder. It would also allow Gamel to play fulltime (which his minor league splits say he should) by taking away Macha's temptation to let Billy play his way out of a slump.

I am surprised this thread is not getting more play. Well.......I guess I am more surprised that we have not heard anything regarding us being interested in him. Seems like exactly what Doug would be looking for. One of the guys he formerly coveted, not going to cost much in terms of dealing talent, and a guy that can truly help our rotation (despite his scenario this year thus far). I still see Padilla, if healthy, as a guy that can be a #3 starter in this league. Truthfully, I'd have no problem trading Padilla and then standing pat roster wise this year and let the chips fall as they may. We keep our prospects and trading options for the off-season and just might have enough pitching to go very deep this season as well.

Nolan Ryan was on with Dan Patrick this morning and Patrick said something about Padilla being released. Ryan jumped on him. "He was not released. He was waived. We want to see if there's any interest in him" blah blah blah something about sending a message that he needs to start pitching better if he wants to remain part of the team.
