Madison Cap Times draft article (with quotes from colbyjack)

Recommended Posts

Boy, I kinda feel bad saying this, but for the Cap. Times, that's an A+ Brewers/MLB Draft article. Well done, Dennis Punzel.

And of course the first & only comment is just a blabbering rant about how Melvin is a crybaby because he wants the draft process improved. Lots of brilliant & constructive insights in that comment, of course.

In fairness to Dennis Punzel and his employing "news source," Capital Newspapers (State Journal + Cap Times) either cut the hours of or laid off entirely each of the sportswriters who supplied Brewers coverage in 2008. Last season there were still locally written recaps of home games; this year it's all AP (home as well as road), with occasional features written by the remaining Cap Newspapers sportswriters.

So the baseball-friendly writers don't get as much opportunity to contribute nowadays.

I understand their choice to put Badger and prep sports first - it is Madison - but somehow I suspect they'll make a point to always send someone for Packers coverage. This is one reason I rely so heavily on Brewerfan to stay informed.

Anyway, sorry to grumble; we appreciate your coverage whenever you can provide it, Dennis.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

But really, preps over a major league franchise? That's small town stuff.

I understand the Badger love in Madison, but they really don't have much going during baseball season. There is some overlap, but not enough to "ignore" the Brewers to the point of basically giving fans an AP wire report. (However, I shouldn't complain as we're no longer subjected to Vic Feuerherd's stories). Thankfully, I can just go to JSOnline (and here) for my "real" Brewers coverage.

Don't get me started on the Packers coverage. I get it, but I hate it.
