Turnbow to Boston?

Really sorry if this was already posted:

Doesn't mention what the Red Sox would offer in return. Probably couldn't get a ton for him right now, but even if it's one or two high prospects, it could be a good deal for Milwaukee at this point.

i wouldn't trade him only cause he has the potential to turn things around and you won't get equal value for him right now.

This is the only reason I do not want to give up T-Bow. He is still young enought to get it back together. Right now we are not going to get good value for him.

Crisp is not worth it unless it is straight up for Jenks.

*cough* I think I mentioned Turnbow to Boston in the Manny discussions...

I still say we try to swing the deal. It covers all four of Boston's needs (OF bat, Backup Catcher, Reliever/Closer, SS):

Jenkins, Miller, Turnbow & Hardy for Manny.

Then we can either:

Play Graffy at SS and we don't lose much bat at all and we can eye Hall in CF and have Gross/Hart split time in Jenkins' old position.

Play Hall at SS (where he has shown he is more than capable) and try our hand with Gross and Hart as our other starters (I truly think Hart will be a solid starter) and have Clark on the bench.

Manny hits #4 in the order thus giving Prince the ability to be the next Ortiz with the amount of pitches he'll see in the 3 hole and getting someone on base far more often for Hall who could bat #5.

It would be the mega splash Milwaukee has never made in an offseason before and it would signal to fans that we want to win now and sell more tickets.

We'd only likely need to add a year to Manny's current deal and considering how much $ we take off the books between Jenkins, Miller and Turnbow, not to mention not offering arby to Mench. And then factoring in the $12 mil we'd offered to Lee and we'd come out ahead of where we'd be if we had retained Lee and with twice the bat in Manny.

Here's an idea of what it might take to get Ramirez from MLB.COM

"The money is not the stumbling block. The Red Sox are asking for a package of prospects and starter Brad Penny for Ramirez. Also included in the wish list is highly regarded pitcher Jonathan Broxton, and the Dodgers are unwilling to pay such a high price for Ramirez."

How can you really say Turnbow is that important with Cordero on the team now? Turnbow is nice to have as a backup, but how do we know he'll ever return to true closer form?

Cause if TBOW can return to All Star form, we could have 2 all stars in the Pen. For a team whos weakness was the Bullpen, it could become our strong point overnight. TBOW and Cordero reminds me of Neil Cotts and Bobby Jenks and we know how dominant that was.

In order for Manny to come to Milwaukee, he'd have to waive his 10/5 rights. In order to do that, Manny would demand that the Brewers pick up his option in 2009 and 2010. Which means that that would never happen.

My guess is that it's someone much less exciting, like David Murphy or something. God knows the Brewers need more OF's.

Yes i agree with everything about the Jenkins, Miller, Turnbow, Hardy deal for Manny. We get rid of an unneeded outfielder and catcher, and although i would be sad to give Dbow away becuase i still belive he can turn it around we do have Coco. And i would also not like to see JJ go but its necessary if the Brewers want to make a big trade like this. Graffy could start at short, and some could say he is a better bat and near as good fielder. Then we could have Counsell and Jeff as backups. I think the Brewers should do this for the team and for the fans as we havent seen a big star trade in.................. forever.

Yeah, but it essentially can't happen. This situation is basically like trying to sign Ramirez in FA. For one, the Brewers wouldn't be the only suitors (they won't be a suitor at all), and Ramirez would have to a.) want to leave Boston, and b.) want to come to Milwaukee - as opposed to LA, or wherever. Then, the financial ramifications make it an utter impossibility, since a market like Milwaukee can't support a $20 million player.

He wouldn't be a $20 million hit when you add up all the contracts we dump. We're dumping over half of that in this deal.... $10 million is far less than we were offering Carlos Lee and we expected Jenkins back still when we made that offer.

Also Milwaukee's a perfect spot for Manny. He would not be destroyed by an overbearing media such as he would in Boston, NY or LA and that's the main reason he wants out of Boston. By making this deal we are saying, "Hey, we want to win... come here and we can do this!" especially in a division in which an 83 game winner went on to win the World Series.

Melvin would have to persuade Manny but it could be done and we could go get him...

Now if the Brewers management team had the cajones to make the attempt.

I agree that Ramirez coming to Milwaukee isn't going to happen, however Turnbow to Boston might be a possibility. The following update from MLB.COM,

"The Red Sox talked to the Brewers regarding right-handed reliever Derrick Turnbow. Turnbow converted 24 of 32 save opportunities in 2006 and was 4-9 with a 6.87 ERA. Turnbow, who turns 29 in January, has two years remaining on the three-year contract he signed last winter, which will pay him $2.3 million in 2007 and $3.2 million in 2008."
