First Round Mock Draft- (Video) The Brew Crew Review

Check out this first round mock draft through the Brewers pick at #26, shot last weekend. A couple of guys have been improving their draft stock this week, namely RHP Jacob Turner.

The Brewers have 5 of the first 74 picks in this year's draft. They have been very successful drafting first round hitters in the past decade (Fielder, Weeks, Braun, Lawrie), but have had little success with first round pitchers (Mike Jones, Mark Rogers, Jeremy Jeffess).

Do you guys think the Brewers new scouting director (Bruce Seid) will stick with the best available player with each pick, or do you think the Brewers will(need to) focus on pitchers? Do you think it would be wise for the Brew Crew to load up on a mix of college/high school arms with those first 5 picks this year and hope that they "hit" on a few of them?

Its always interesting to see what certain mock drafts think, but there isnt any way that Jacob Turner falls to the Brewers.

A couple of other things about the video, I dont think Grant Green falls to 15...

Other than that it seems like an ok mock draft.

Turner is a Boras client, and is asking for $7 million. He could fall like a stone with that asking price, and the Brewers will pass on him too. Lets say he agrees to $5 million, thats $3.7 million over slot. There will be a very good player available for slot at #26, the Brewers will save that money to spend on a trade aquisition for the stretch drive.

The Brewers could actually use more power bats in the system, The Brewers already have a nice collection of power arms from rookie ball through A+. They'll stick with BPA. With 5 of the 1st 74, they could get a collection of both , power bats and power arms. If the Brewers pick 3 pitchers before round 3, it will be only the 3rd time in franchise history the've done that. The other times were last year , (with 4), 1993 (Jeff D'amico and Kelly Wusnsch were major leaguers), and 1987. None of the pitchers from 87 made the majors..
