Chad Cordero available?

My thinking is that if we wanted to get him at the deadline, get him now. I am thinking his addition would be very valuable to our bullpen and would get rid of a weak member while adding a very good member. So with that said, I am thinking maybe Jackson (they could start him now), Aquino, and Inman would be a fair trade. We could maybe throw them Mench too if they wanted him. Tell me if I am way off here.

To second or third what others have said, as long as a trade doesn't involve Gallardo or Inman, I would be willing to make a trade for Cordero as it would bring a top notch bullpen arm to our bullpen.

Zach Jackson makes sense as he could start as mentioned. Aquino also sounds like a good match to clear room for Cordero. I am not sure about what other nuggets the Crew could send or what Washington might want.

You'd have to declare Braun off limits too. His bat is potentially good enough to be an asset at first base or in the outfield.

I wouldn't give up Braun, Gallardo, or Villanueva. Probably not Inman either. Everybody else in the farm system would potentially be up for grabs. Jackson, Iribarren, or Gwynn all could be on the table. Maybe toss in Sarfate or Capellan to balance bullpens.

And, I agree, if you like Cordero enough to trade for him at the deadline, you should like him enough to trade for him now. I don't think it will happen, but it sure is nice to be in the position of pondering it and realizing it could be feasible.

I did miss him in my original post. No way do you trade Braun either. I was thinking along the lines of pitching I suppose when I was thinking of the Nats and there lack of pitching.

I agree it is feasible for the Crew to be thinking about.

I would think that a Capellan, jackson, Gwynn Jr. would be a good trade.

I love that trade.

Only people that would not like this trade is the Nationals. We are not giving up anything and getting a solid closer.

Living in dayton the past 5 years, and watching bowden make his mark on the Reds, I would believe he already has his closer in waiting in Ryan Wagner. one of his first moves as the Nationals GM was to bring former Reds Kearns, Lopez and Wagner to D.C. Wagner was an All American closer in college the year he was drafted.

that said, looking at what Bowden has done as the National's GM, he will not just give away a player. He allowed Soriano to walk rather than trade him for the garbage that was offered for him. he valued the 2 first round picks he received for allowing Soriano to leave as better than the offers he received. He traded a bunch of garbage to acquire Soriano (Sledge, wilkerson and P Armando Galarraga). He stole kearns, Lopez and Wagner from the Reds last year for a bag of onions that included Royce Clayton.

you are not going to be able to fool Bowden into giving away Cordero unless you include some quality player that is going to start for his team. Bowden is not on the hot seat to produce a winner this year. even on a bad team, a closer can still help save 35-40 games.

The Nationals depth is their young outfielders. They don't really need a third baseman. First base is a question. they have Broadway who is maybe a year away and has some power. Starting pitching is always a question. catching is suspect.

I don't really see a hole on the Nationals that the brewers would be able to fill given our depth in the minors. I'd hate to give up one of our best starting pitching prospects to try to acquire Cordero. I'm quite sure bowden would accept bush or capuano as fair compensation for cordero. I doubt highly he would accept quantity for quality.

it's one thing for a Gm to say a player is available. it's another thing to be able to meet his asking price.
