wisconsin's game is on time warner sports for those who have it. looks like i am flipping between the brewers and baby brewers tonight.

I was going to hit the game and grab some Digital Video for everyone but work is going to keep me and the game is on TV anyway. Guess I'm not getting down there in person till June.

No Salome again today... I wonder what's up? Nashville squandered opportunities in the 1st and 2nd innings.

I like the current lineup for WI even without Green, I feel good about Dennis.

Nice comeback win for Nashville tonight.

The starting pitching for Huntsville continues to struggle.

Not much offense in WI but the Rattlers ahead 2-1 late. Frederickson just so-so again he helped score a small ball run against him with a Balk...

McClendon with another good relief performance... ERA at 1.88 and GO/AO at 2.53 so he is keeping the ball on the ground, and only 4 BB in 28 innings. Again I ask, why is Holliman starting and not McClendon?

Fredrickson pitched much better than his line. All the hits against him were cheapies, seeing eye grounders and an infield chopper. He really pitches on a downward plain and gets hitters to beat the ball into the ground. His delivery is actually very smooth, which suprised me. His wildness comes from him loosing his release point, which cause some very wild pitches. Hitters seem very uncomfortable in the box against him. Jerry Augestine, who was doing the game with Bob Brainerd for TWSC, said his fastball was in the low 90s tonight. His curve was sharp, and he threw it for strikes. He threw a good number of change-ups for swing and misses. He made a nice pick-up on a bunt, and seems to be a decent athlete. For a guy listed 240, he's not bulky at all. He's just a big, angular dude.

I was impressed, and relieved.

Final: Nashville 5, Las Vegas (Blue Jays) 4

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Sounds Close Homestand With Last At-Bat Win

NASHVILLE - Brendan Katin delivered a one-out, game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Nashville Sounds their first last at-bat victory of the season on Tuesday evening at historic Greer Stadium, a come-from-behind 5-4 triumph over the Las Vegas 51s in the finale of a four-game series.

With the win, Nashville (22-18) took three of four from the 51s and wrapped up its first winning homestand of the year with a 6-2 record.

Trailing 4-3 entering the final half-inning, the Sounds rallied for the win against Las Vegas closer Jeremy Accardo. After the first batter of the frame was retired, Tony Gwynn singled and stole second. Alcides Escobar drew a walk before Adam Heether hit a grounder to first baseman Brett Harper, who threw wildly towards second and into left field, allowing Gwynn to scamper home with the tying run.

Katin, the Sounds' cleanup hitter, stepped in and roped Accardo's 1-2 offering back up the middle for the game-winning single.

AUDIO: Katin's Game-Winning Single

Reliever Chris Smith (2-0) picked up the win for the Sounds after working two scoreless innings, while Accardo (1-1) took the loss after suffering his second blown save of the year.

Las Vegas designated hitter Randy Ruiz opened the evening's scoring with a two-run homer to left off Sounds starter Nick Green in the top of the third inning, his eighth longball of the year.

The Sounds halved the lead in the sixth. Escobar opened the frame with a single off 51s starter David Purcey, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on Katin's sacrifice fly to center to make it a 2-1 game.

The 51s extended the advantage to 4-1 in the seventh with another two-run blast, this one coming off the bat of center fielder Buck Coats who crushed a Wes Littelton curveball over the right field wall. The tater was Coats' third of the year.

Nashville pulled back within a run with a two-out rally against the Las Vegas bullpen in the bottom of the eighth.

Gwynn and Escobar opened the frame with consecutive singles off Bryan Bullington. After a pair of strikeouts, Joe Koshansky greeted 51s southpaw Bill Murphy with an RBI single to center to plate Gwynn. Following another pitching change, Jason Bourgeois delivered a run-scoring single up the middle against T.J. Beam to close the deficit to 4-3.

After issuing a walk to Cole Gillespie to load the bases, Beam worked out of the jam without further damage by inducing an inning-ending flyout from Carlos Corporan.

Neither starter factored in the decision despite a pair of quality starts. Purcey was robbed of his first win of the year for the 51s due to the blown save. He allowed one run on six hits while fanning seven over seven strong innings. Green gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings, striking out a Sounds season-high nine batters in the outing.

The Sounds hit the road for the Pacific Northwest tomorrow evening and open a four-game series on Thursday at 9:05 PM CT against the Portland Beavers (AAA-Padres). Right-hander Tim Dillard (6-1, 2.66) will start Thursday's series opener for Nashville and face Portland right-hander Walter Silva (0-1, 4.76).

Nashville wraps up its trip with a four-game stop in Tacoma before returning to Greer Stadium on Friday, May 29, for an eight-game homestand versus Omaha and Iowa.

Nashville Box Score

Alcides Escobar was the "4" in a 6-4-3 double play; Escobar and a resurgent Tony Gwynn combined to score all five Sounds runs; Nick Green with a 35-to-8 K-to-BB ratio in 45 innings -- that'll do nicely; Chris Smith is the man, what an astute minor league free agent signing, and without a spring training invite even; hopefully Angel Salome will be back for the next contest Thursday after sitting out the last two games...

Final: Mobile (Diamondbacks) 6, Huntsville 4

Huntsville Site Game Summary

Holliman Can't Hold on to Early Lead

BayBears Survive Shaky Ninth to Down Stars Again

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

Barry Enright overcame a rough first inning and went seven solid frames in pitching Mobile past Huntsville 6-4 Tuesday night in the fourth of a five-game set at Hank Aaron Stadium. The BayBears have won three straight games for the first time since April 21-23 to improve to 22-17 and move to within five games of first place Birmingham in the South Division, while the Stars fell to 16-18 after losing for a sixth time in seven games. Huntsville remained a half game behind in the North, as division leader Tennessee was topped by Chattanooga, which also closed to within a half-game of the top spot.

Daniel Schlereth took over in the ninth for Mobile protecting a three-run lead and promptly issued two walks and allowed an infield to load the bases with nobody out. Pinch-hitter Yohannis Perez bounced into a force out at second base to drive in Kevin Melillo to cut the lead to 6-4 before Adam Stern struck out for the second out. After Shane Justis cut through a pitch to fall behind in the count 1-2, catcher Orlando Mercado threw to first base to pick off Perez to end the inning and game. Schlereth survived a rough outing to record his second save of the season, both against the Stars.

The Stars loaded the bases in the first inning against BayBears' starter Barry Enright on a walk and two singles before Drew Anderson struck out for the first out of the game. Vinny Rottino followed with a two-run single and Chuck Caufield's two-out, run-scoring hit chased home Jonathan Lucroy to give the visitors a three-spot in the first inning for a second time in the series.

Stars'starter Mark Holliman tossed two scoreless innings before Enright led off the home third with a single and Evan Frey and James Skelton walked to load the bases. Ricardo Sosa singled in a run and the red-hot Cyle Hankerd followed with a double to drive in two to tie the game, giving him eight runs batted in over the last three games. Mercado and Sean Coughlin each knocked in a run with a scoring fly ball to complete the five-run rally. Holliman was lifted after only three frames and charged with the loss after giving up five hits, walking three and not recording a strikeout.

Mike McClendon took over for Holliman and threw three innings in relief, allowing a run in the fifth on a Mark Hallberg fielder's choice grounder that scored Hankerd, who was hit with a purpose pitch. Enright retired the first two hitters in the sixth and then threw behind Caufield without a warning being issued by the home plate umpire. Stars' skipper Bob Miscik came out to find out why and was thrown out of the game after arguing the point to no avail. Enright allowed seven hits, walked one and fanned three to grab his second win of the season.

The series concludes Wednesday night with left-hander David Welch getting the starting nod for Huntsville against BayBears' right-hander Cody Evans. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 PM central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score

Well, that was a 9th inning to be proud of -- not; Chuck Caufield a .950 OPS with RISP (28 AB's); Omar Aguilar a 1-2-3 9th; two of Mark Holliman's seven starts have been quality -- the others, not close...

Final: Wisconsin 2, Clinton (Mariners) 1

Wisconsin Site Game Summary

Wisconsin sweeps Clinton

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers earned a five-game sweep of the Clinton LumberKings with a 2-1 win Tuesday night at Time Warner Cable Field. Jose Duran hustled on a routine grounder in the bottom of the fifth inning to let the go-ahead run score. Wily Peralta and Jim Henderson closed out the game with four scoreless innings.

Clinton (20-18) scored first. They got a two-out infield single from Jake Shaffer to drive in a runner from third in the top of the fourth inning. That was it for the visitors. Wisconsin reliever Brandon Ritchie pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning. Then, it was time for the Rattler hitters to get to work.

Wisconsin (17-21) clawed for a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead against former Timber Rattler pitcher Brett Lorin. Erik Miller singled to lead off the inning and Sean McCraw walked with one out. They both moved up a base on an infield grounder that was the second out of the inning.

Duran was at the plate when Lorin uncorked a wild pitch to let Miller score the tying run and McCraw move up to third.

Then, Duran sent what appeared to be a routine grounder to second that should have been the third out. But, Duran hustled down the line and when the LumberKing second baseman hesitated for a fraction of a second, Duran beat the throw for an infield single and McCraw scored the go ahead run.

Peralta worked around a pair of hits and two walks over three scoreless innings by striking out seven to keep the Rattlers up by a run.

Lorin struck out eight and allowed just four hits with one walk over 7-2/3 innings, but he was tagged with his first loss of the season.

Henderson pitched a perfect ninth inning for his tenth save to preserve Wisconsin's series sweep of the LumberKings.

Wisconsin begins a 12-game road trip on Wednesday night with a game at Western Division leading Kane County. The Timber Rattlers have Cody Adams (1-4, 4.06) as the scheduled starting pitcher. The Cougars will counter with Anthony Capra (0-2, 3.09). Game time is 6:30 PM.

Wisconsin Box Score

Left-handed batters are 0-for-20 with two walks against LHP Brandon Ritchie; thanks for the analysis above from the TV broadcast, X ellence...

I was at the T-Rats game last night, and that Jose Duran single was a complete joke. I have no idea what the 2nd baseman was thinking. He let the ball bounce three times and then hesitated to throw it to first. Duran did a great job hustling and seemed to easily be safe. Really a knuckleheaded play that cost his team the game.

I was very impressed with that Peralta pitcher. He didn't seem to have fantastic numbers going into the game, but he threw some heat and had a wicked curveball.
