Brewers To Sport Road Jersey saying "Milwaukee"?

Crew2323

I was just browsing through an onmilwaukee.com article published today and came across this interesting tidbit under "Larry King Lounge":

The Brewers are only wearing the "retro" jerseys on the first Friday of every month and the players aren't complaining. They don't really like the getups. Rumor has it that in the reasonably near future the team may switch back to a road jersey that says "Milwaukee."
I, for one, would love to see the road jersey sporting "Milwaukee" across the chest. I hope this is true. I am also interested to find out what Drew Olsen means when he says "reasonably near future." Could it be this year yet? Anyone have insight to this?

They already have the Milwaukee wordmark, so just put that on the current road unis and there you go. It was great when the Bucks did it with the red alts this year, and it would be even better if the Brewers did it. And I won't even complain about having one of the "old" road Braun authentics :p

Oh man this would be sweet! I have longed for this day. If they do this on the gray or navy uniform I'm getting a Braun one for sure. This is long overdue. On a side note I'm glad they are only wearing the retro uni's the first Friday home game of each month. I feel the same way the players do about the retro gear.

I thought there were rules in place regarding uniform changes have to be approved at least one year in advance. But I could be wrong.

If they do make this switch, I'm totally putting down for a replica at least. Long overdue.

I prefer it because it's more or less traditional to have the city name on the road unis. And to me at least, it evokes slightly more pride if they wear the city name.

Mike's right, that is why I have wanted them to bring it back for so long. It's just very traditional and old school. And "Milwaukee" looks great in the current font and color scheme. Can't wait to get a Braun jersey. Hopefully Olsen will send me an email back with at least a little more info on this possible change.

I agree. Doing the retros all the time got kind of old. I kind of wish they would switch it up and maybe have some other old retro jerseys. I'd love to see the current team don the old powder blue road uniforms just once. Like maybe if they're on the road and the home team is doing a retro night as well.

The switch from "Milwaukee" to "Brewers" came about when the 5 county tax passed. In order to somehow not alienate the other 4 counties, "Milwaukee" was dropped.

It is for this reason I do not foresee a change in uniform appearance. I would like the change, but it would surprise me to see it happen.

FWIW, I would also like to see the retro uni's dropped entirely. Get out of the old days, praise today.

They could do an occassional turn back the clock thing, but they should vary the uniforms for that. This year they are down to once a month with the 1982 uniforms, maybe by next season or the following one it'll be just once during the season.

I live in one of the other counties and would have no problem with "Milwaukee" on the road jersey. Do they really think that people in the other counties are going to be irate if they do this?

I remember when the Brewers briefly considered becoming the Wisconsin Brewers in hopes of receiving more state-wide support (financially that is). That's probably why they stick with that butt-ugly patch they wear with the state of Wisconsin behind the script M.

I'm glad the team seems to be phasing out the retro-uniforms. The first Friday of the month is more than enough, and hopefully they will scale that back to never next year. I agree with jeffryscott that the occasional turn back the clock night would be a fine way to continue to honor the tradition of the Brewers, whether it be the American Association Brewers, the Pilots, Milwaukee Bears, Cerveceros, or whatever era/group they choose to honor. Fans can still buy as much retro merchandise as they want.

Anyway, I seem to be one of the few that likes to see "Brewers" across the the team's jerseys on both their home and road uni's. It makes them a little different from most teams out there. Even the Orioles went back to having the city name on their away jersey, as the Dodgers were another team that up until a few years ago had their team name on both.

Personally, I could care less whether the road uni says "Milwaukee" or "Brewers." Could anyone say why they prefer "Milwaukee" so much?
Yeah, besides it looking cool, I've never figured out why so many people here seem to salivate over this.

I've lived out-of-state for a good portion of my fanhood (starting way back as a kid in the late 70s), and have lived in both Milwaukee and elsewhere in Wisconsin, but it seems to me like it could possibly open a tiny can of worms. Even besides the 5-county thing, it seems like financially the Brewers need the state of Wisconsin--Milwaukee is just not a big enough of a market on its own. Think of the boarders like hawing and rluz that travel from elsewhere in the state.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

FWIW, I absolutely love that patch...in fact, it's the background on my computer at work. A good way to honor the state in a subtle way, kind of like what the O's are doing with their Maryland state flag patch this year. Also one of the reasons I want to buy the alternate blue jersey.

I can see I'm in the minority so far but I like the retro uniforms. I don't think it hurts anything if they wear them twice a month at home. I don't see the big deal in changing the uniform from "Brewers" to "Milwaukee". Are there people out there that would be less of a fan because they live in a different part of the state and the uniform said Milwaukee? Get over it, they are the Milwaukee Brewers. I don't get it. They can wear a T-Shirt and jeans for all I care.

I to love the "M" logo in front of the state patch. It was also my computer background for awhile.

Here is what I heard back from Drew Olson about the possible change:

"Jason --

I'll let you know when I hear something concrete. It's still in the talking phase right now."
