2009-05-15 Brewers (Gallardo) at Cardinals (Lohse): 7:15 PM CDT [PPD]

Wow, the things you learn reading the MLB rules.

First, it looks like TLR does indeed get the say so on if the game should start;

3.10

(a) The manager of the home team shall be the sole judge as to whether a game shall be started because of unsuitable weather conditions or the unfit condition of the playing field, except for the second game of a doubleheader.

Once the home manager hands his lineup card to the umps, its in the umps hands. I stand corrected there.

Also, my take from the official rules is that game has to make it to the 5th inning to be considered a regulation game, and then multiple scenarios play out. But at this point, it is not a regulation game, so if they don't resume, it's deemed a "No Game" and replayed from scratch.

Ah finally, postponed for the night and I can get on with my life. ............. And the first 2 innings don't count

Could Gallardo hypethetically pitch on Sunday? Its not like he threw a ton of pitches, it was practically a bullpen session

Brewers catch a break there. It´s nice to have a 2-0 deficit completely erased. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
We're the masters of the comeback. I'm upset it was canceled because we would've won.

TH's blog and the Brewers website are now reporting the game will be made up Monday, May 18th at 7:15pm. [link]

I thought they changed the rules a few years ago and that games that started were either considered full games if after 5 innings, but if not after 5 innings then the game picks up where it left off.

There was definitely a rule change, and I believe the rule change affected a Brewers @ Florida game a few years back. Does anyone know anything more about this?

I'm beyond ticked off about Monday's rescheduling of this game. I can't tell you how many Brewer fans were at the game last night, and I don't know how any of us who can't go to Monday's game are going to unload our tickets that fast. Clearly, the Cardinals and MLB could give two you-know-whats about their fans.

I don't know...maybe they could have tried to squeeze in a double header yet this weekend, but that's not always possible.
At least not reschedule it for two days later so that out of towners can try to unload their tickets. Today would have been a perfect day for a double header with the original game scheduled for noon. This is the third time I've been through this with the Cardinals and it's just so aggravating.

You can't expect them to try to bend over backwards for fans. It's about getting the game in. With them both having off days on Mon it makes sense. I'm sorry that it screws up your plans but things like this happen from time to time.

Wasn't there a Brewers-Marlins game in early 2007 which was suspended and then replayed from the suspension point later? That one was past the 5th when it was suspended, but the score was tied - hence play resumed on a different day, instead of it being called "a game."

Tiny silver lining in having the makeup for this game be May 18 instead of August 31: playing on 8/31 would have resulted in another 20 games in 20 days stretch for the Brewers. They'll probably appreciate/need the off day by then. I know that doesn't help ticketholders for the original 5/15 contest, but it might help the team in the end.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I believe that the rule change was for a tie game, if it is an official game and tied then it is suspended and they pick up the game where they left off. It used to be that a game like that would have to start over, I think.
