Chase Wright pitched a nice game today. If he could just keep from the blow-up starts he could provide at least an average option as a 6/7 starter. His K numbers seem to say he has a limited ceiling, but I am just hoping he can provide depth. The guy he was traded for, Eric Fryer, is struggling this year. He his hitting just .234 and an OPS of .637. No winners in that trade so far.

The Nashville lineup as a whole had a really nice day. It has been noted by many but with the struggles of our bench it would seem like the Hurricane would get a call soon.

Final: Nashville 7, Reno (Diamondbacks) 1

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Packed House Watches Sounds Blast Aces, 7-1

NASHVILLE- The Nashville Sounds took the second game of the four-game series with the Reno Aces, 7-1, after Chase Wright's great pitching performance this afternoon in front of 8,036 fans at historic Greer Stadium.

Nashville improves to 14-6 in morning starts since 2004, including a 5-0 mark in 2009.

The Sounds busted out 15 hits on the afternoon to help Wright's cause, with every member of the Sounds line-up recording a hit. Joe Koshansky went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead Nashville.

The majority of the crowd on hand were area schoolchildren in attendance on field trips as a reward for reaching their reading goals in the Nashville Sounds Reading Club program.

Reno was able to strike first, as John Hester singled to score Trent Oeltjen for a 1-0 Aces lead in the top of the first. Wright (2-4) shut the Aces down the rest of the afternoon, throwing his second quality start of the season. He allowed just one run on four hits with three strikeouts over six innings of work.

The Sounds put three on the board with three consecutive two-out doubles in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Koshansky collected his first RBI at home on the season, tying the game at 1 with his double to center field. Catcher Mike Rivera put the Sounds on top, 2-1, on the next pitch, doubling in Koshansky. Hernan Iribarren then added another double to left field, scoring Rivera for a 3-1 score.

The Sounds added another four runs to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Cole Gillespie singled to center field to start the rally and was brought home by Alcides Escobar for Sounds 4-1 lead. Koshansky and Rivera each followed with RBI singles, and Iribarren capped the inning with a sacrifice fly for a Sounds 7-1 lead.

Reno starter Hector Ambriz (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings.

After Wright's performance, Matt Ginter, R.J. Swindle, and Ryan Houston each followed with a scoreless inning to nail down the win.

The Sounds and Aces will play the third game of a four-game series tomorrow night at 7:00 PM at historic Greer Stadium. Right-hander Nick Green (2-2, 4.36) makes the start against righty Cesar Valdez (1-3, 7.48).

WI postponed again. These rainouts are getting irritating.

Final: Chattanooga (Dodgers) 4, Huntsville 2, 12 innings

Huntsville Site Game Summary

Stars' Struggles at Home Continue

Closser Clout Leads Looks to Win

By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars

J.D. Closser's two-run home run in the 12th inning carried Chattanooga to a 4-2 comeback win over Huntsville Wednesday night in the middle of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars fell to 15-14 and into a first place tie with Tennessee in the North Division, while the Lookouts improved to 14-19 and crept to within three games of the lead. The Lookouts have won five of the eight games between the two teams this year.

Derrick Ellison opened the decisive frame on the hill for Huntsville and walked the leadoff man Russ Mitchell before Closser blasted an 0-1 offering for his first long ball of the year. Ellison suffered his second loss, both to Chattanooga and both on game-winning home runs. J.D. Durbin then took over for the visitors in the bottom of the frame and tossed a scoreless inning to nail down the save for a second straight game.

Closser came up in the ninth with two outs and runners at first and second against Omar Aguilar and sent a broken bat ground ball to second base that Shane Justis fielded and threw on to first base for what looked to be the final out of the game only to see Vinny Rottino mishandle the throw, which allowed pinch-runner Adam Godwin to score to tie the game at two.

Adam Heether's home run, the Stars' first at home since April 18, in the fifth inning off of starter Scott Elbert had given Huntsville a 2-1 lead. Elbert lasted six innings, giving up a pair of runs on four hits, while walking three and fanning six. Stars' starter Bobby Bramhall put together his longest outing of the season, going six innings and allowing one unearned run on four hits, while walking two and striking out two.

Donovan Hand retired all six batters he faced behind Bramhall before Aguilar took over in the ninth. Juan Sandoval threw scoreless relief in the 10th and 11th innings for the Stars, who fell to 6-9 at home. Francisco Felix, Tim Corcoran, Jesus Rodriguez and Durbin kept the Stars scoreless over the last six innings, with Rodriguez going two shutout frames to grab his third win of the season.

The series continues Thursday night with right-hander Mark Holliman taking the hill for Huntsville against Lookouts' left-hander James Adkins. Coverage of the game begins at 6:45 PM central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score

Wow, just reading about the unfortunate Vinny Rottino misplay in the 9th is excruciating; Adam Stern had four of the Stars' nine hits, now hitting .376 in a not-so-small sample of 117 AB's; Jonathan Lucroy walked three times and has now walked 18 times with 92 AB's, while striking out only 12 times -- the only thing he's not doing is slugging, but that'll come; the Stars did not allow an earned run until the 12th inning...

Huntsville Game Log

Nice escape work by Bobby Bramhall in the 5th; brutal GIDP for the Stars in the 7th...

Final: Cedar Rapids (Angels) 3, Wisconsin 2

Wisconsin Site Game Summary

Kernels edge Rattlers

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Adam Younger's RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Cedar Rapids Kernels their winning margin in a 3-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wednesday night at Perfect Game Field. Four Kernel pitchers held the Timber Rattlers to just three hits in the game.

Cedar Rapids designated hitter Dwayne Bailey opened the scoring with a two-out RBI triple to left-center that drove Angel Castillo home from second base.

Wisconsin (11-19) tied the game with a little help from Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Ryan Chaffee. Cutter Dykstra was hit by a pitch with one out and Michael Marseco sent Dykstra around to third base with a hit-and-run single. Chaffee allowed Dykstra to score from third with an errant pickoff throw to first base.

But, the Kernels (14-17) retook the lead in the bottom of the third. Rattler starting pitcher Efrain Nieves walked the first two batters of the inning and allowed a bunt single to load the bases. Nieves limited the damage as the only run scored on a sacrifice fly by Roberto Lopez.

Marseco, who had all three of the Timber Rattler hits, got Wisconsin back to even with a two-out RBI single in the top of the fifth.

Cedar Rapids went back on top in bottom of the sixth inning. Rattler reliever Liam Ohlmann issued a one out walk to Bailey. A throwing error on an errant pickoff throw by Ohlmann allowed Bailey to take second. Then, Younger tripled to right-center and Bailey raced home with the run to make the score 3-2.

Chaffee walked four, hit two batters, and threw three wild pitches while allowing two hits. But, he struck out seven and allowed just two runs.

The next two Cedar Rapids relievers each worked a scoreless inning.

In the top of the ninth against Kernel closer Vladimir Veras, Brock Kjeldgaard drew a one out walk and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Then, Erik Miller reached on an error to put runners at the corners with one out. But, Veras got the final two outs without incident to nail down his fourth save.

There was a doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday, but with the long rain delay before action started, the doubleheader is now scheduled for Thursday. In game one, the Timber Rattlers have Wily Peralta (0-0, 4.64) as the scheduled starting pitcher. In game two, Wisconsin has Trey Watten (1-4, 5.76) as their scheduled starter. The Kernels had not announced their starters for either game. Game one is scheduled to start at 5:35 PM.

Wisconsin Box Score

Michael Vass flied out to shallow center with a man on 3rd and one out in the 9th in the game's pivotal at-bat; walks kill, the kids will learn eventually; Cody Scarpetta struck out four and did not allow a run in the game's final two innings, although he allowed a hit, a walk, hit two batters, threw a wild pitch, and saw a partridge in a pear tree; catcher Sean McCraw ejected in the 5th -- it looks like he was unhappy with a stolen base call on a throw he made. Maybe he felt he was interfered with...

Wisconsin Game Log

A failed double steal attempt in the 5th saw Michael Marseco thrown out at home; what do we always say about this squad? Just enough to lose...
