Morgan Ensberg

I just read on Rotoworld that the Brewers could be one of the teams at the trade deadline looking to deal for Morgan Ensberg. I could see them doing this deal as their big trade for the strech run. I dont think it would be a bad pick up and would give Braun more time to master his craft with the Sounds. go to Rotoworld, look in strike zone under Houston. or here is the link

It's not that hard to believe if they suck enough, and we give them enough.

We'd be able to leave Braun down this year which is good, butwhat is Ensberg's contract like? If he is back next year can he play left to take Mench's spot in the platoon? He does crush lefties and its far more likely that Jenks would come back next year than Mench.

his postseason experience could also come in handy. Lets not overlook that. If we dont have to give away an arm and a leg to get him, I'd be all for it, especially if we could offer him arby and get some picks after he walks

I'd love to have Ensberg. Can never have too many guys that have had a .388 and .396 OBP the last two years. He'd have one arby year left, so if they felt like it they could move Braun to the OF next spring to replace the Menchkins tandem.

I just don't see how anyone can assume Braun is going to come up and be able to do that. Far fewer rookies are great in their first season than what is commonly believed. Look at Weeks. He destroyed AAA just like Braun is, and he sits with 850 AB's and a .755 OPS for his career. Alex Gordon's got a sub-.600 OPS so far, and he's ridiculously talented.

Ding Ding Ding

Career OPS of .955 against lefties. He can play 3B this year if Braun isn't ready - but trading for him doesn't cost more money, he saves money!

Instead of our really expensive platoon of Mench and Jenkins we could offer Ensberg arbitration and have him for 6M or so and pair him with Gross in left. And our left field platoon salary just went down.

Bottom line, he can play 3B pretty well. He has a really good OBP. And I would take him over Mench whenever possible.

I would not like Ensberg being a Brewer...His days are over.

And you basing this on what? One bad month? He is two years removed from 35 home runs. He hit 23 in limited at bats last season. His OBPs have beeen amazing the two season. It really cannot see how he wouldnt at least out produce our current third base platoon.

And call me crazy, but he would be a nice guy to put in the leadoff spot every once in a while. Garner had him there this past weekend for one game.

I don't think he can play the OF, though. But Braun definitely can.

Ensberg signed a one year deal for 2007 worth $4.35M + performance bonuses. He is a free agent after the 2008 season. Link
