Playoff Tickets (latest: 2008 renewal + '07 postseason refund information sent to season ticket holders)

statman0007
I remember that there was a thread about this a while back, but I don't think that it would be in the recent threads. Can someone explain how playoff tickets would work in some detail? I know that season ticket holders get first dibs, but will the rest of us get a shot at them too? Is it just a matter of calling in right when tickets go on sale? I think I remember that prices are adjusted for playoffs too. Thanks for any help you guys can give! I want to make sure that I don't miss it if this is the year they finally break through!

Well, here's what I know for sure.

9 game season ticket holders will get the chance to buy one ticket for every one seat they hold as a season ticker holder for one game in both the Divisional Series and the NLCS. 9 game ticket holders will not be offered World Series tickets.

20 game - 81 game ticket holders will get the chance to buy one ticket for every one seat they hold as a season ticker holder for each game of Divisional Series and the NLCS. Still no definitive word from the Brewers if anyone other than full season ticket holders will be offered WS tickets. The Brewers sent out letters recently explaining the playoff ticket policy but it didn't really say anything new that wasn't discussed in the original thread on this board.

As for how many tickets would be available to the general public, I can't imagine it would be very many. Remember that for the inaugural Home Opener at Miller Park, only 10,000 were available to non season ticket holders. Now think about the various hold backs for MLB & corporate sponsors, how many tickets are we looking at? 5,000? Less?

As far as I know the Brewers have not decided how these tickets will be distributed, but I would imagine that they could do something similar to how they handled Opening Day tickets to the first game at Miller Park.

As a nine game ticket holder they sent out something telling us what playoff tickets we would be eligible for but it was just an attempt to get you to upgrade to the 20 game pack so that may be why you didn't receive it.

How recently? I don't remember seeing that.

I assume your a 20 game or more season ticket holder as well, because I didn't get one either. I called my season ticket rep after I heard about the letter and he told me that only 9 game holders got the letter.

The letter also mentions that 9 game holders have until July 2nd to upgrade their ticket packages.

Also I did a bit more digging and found that last year the Cardinals offered only 3,000 tickets to the public for their post season games. The Dodgers & Mets, on the other hand pre-sold more than 10,000 tickets. Of course, The Dodger & Mets have stadiums with much larger seating capacities that Busch & Miller Park.

As for prices, MLB sets a "suggested price range" for playoff tickets. Last year, that meant as much as $250 a piece.

Last weekend we were at a graduation party on the S.O.'s side of the family. His sister-in-law remarked to me about the Brewers' chances of getting into the playoffs, and added that the would surely be some postseason games that we couldn't attend (implying that we would make our tickets available to her).

I won't repeat exactly what I was thinking, because I want to keep Brewerfan beautiful; but the chances of that happening are mighty slim.

I would be kind of incensed if after 15 years of buying partial game packs, we were shut out of a World Series. Actually, I might be more than "kind of" incensed.

Edit: Yes, 20fry, we have a 20 game pack. So in the context described above, it makes sense we didn't get the letter.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Well this isn't the news that I was hoping for. I really don't mind that the season ticket holders get first dibs, that's only fair, but it really gets to me that so many corporate tickets go out and that a bunch of people that don't care at all about the Brewers and couldn't name half of the players get to go to the playoffs. Does anyone have a guess at what the going rate of tickets will be if I had to buy them off of someone? Would I be able to get terrace or bleacher seats to a weekend game for $50? $100?

I don't think anyone was saying it's a lock for the team to MAKE the playoffs, just a "what if" type thing.. How the process works, etc..

That said, I think I am eligible for some (being a full/partial ST holder for 18 years)..But I haven't gotten anything regarding pricing, etc (which I don't think is set in advance anyway).

I doubt it. I wouldn't be surprised if terrace level playoff tickets went for $125-150+. Especially if you can't get them from a connection and need to get them off eBay or elsewhere.

I received the letter last week regarding the playoff tickets. I have 5 seats in the Retro Friday 9 game package and the letter states that I am entitled to 1 game of each of the NLDS and NLCS but only up to 4 tickets. So the fifth guy in our group is not going to be happy.

The letter goes on to try to get us to upgrade to a 20 game package. But if WS tix are not a part of that then I dont see the need to upgrade since the tix for the NLDS and NLCS are the same whether you hold a 9 game or a 20 game package.

No, a 20 game pack gets you tickets for every game.

A 9 game only gives you tickets to 1 game.

What gets me is that I think that the majority of Brewers season ticket holders- full or partial- don't realize the amount of money that they will be handing over for playoff tickets. Last year for Detroit and St. Louis, it was about double the price in the Division Series, a little more for the League Championship, and World Series tickets were between approximately $60- $300.

The Brewers organization was being quite hush hush or vague about 9 game plans and playoff tickets for good reason. They are now also being hush hush about prices to playoff games for good reason. Why scare or push people away from games because of cost?

Overall, they could be more forthright with the fans. If we get to the playoffs, some people will be very surprised to learn what their loyalty suddenly costs.

I don't have season tickets, and considering the potential hype over the first playoff appearance in 25 years, I assume I would have to pay $100-$200 for a terrace seat in the NLDS. Maybe less if we get the 12:00 PM weekday games, but not much.

Yeah, there's gonna be some sticker shock among people who bought $4 seats in the Terrace during the regular season.

For some idea, here's a story from 2006 with price ranges for the playoffs & World Series-

LINK

...Be prepared to pay if your team makes it to the World Series.

The price of regular box seats will be $250, according to notices some teams have started sending to their season ticket holders.

That's up from $185 last year, a 35 percent hike that is the steepest in nearly a decade, since Major League Baseball doubled the price from $75 to $150 in 1998. The cost rose to $160 in 2000, $175 in 2001 and $185 in 2004, where it stayed last year...

...Baseball's ticket-price range for the Series will start at a low of $75, a $10 increase from last year...

...In the first two rounds of the baseball playoffs, there will be slight increases. For the league championship series, the suggested range given to teams by the commissioner's office is $50-$95, up from $50-90 last year. For the division series, the range is $20-$55, up from $20-$50 last season...
