Ryan Doumit

He'd be a free agent after 2011.

On the one hand, if he can be signed to a reasonably cheap extension (say through 2013), I'd have no problem with him behind the plate. He's a switch hitter with some power who can also play a corner OF spot or 1B. At worst, he's a very valuable bench player. At best, he takes over at catcher long-term.

But what would he cost the Brewers?

I could see Pittsburgh holding the Crew up for a fair bit. And who's to say that Salome or Lucroy won't provide the same level of offense?

If he comes relatively cheap (say for Corey Hart and Jorge Julio), then I'd make the deal.

I am more concerned about helping our lineup this year. Kendall is a black hole at the bottom and his defense has not been as good this year as last.

Whoa, Hart is cheap for someone you're calling a potential valuable bench player?
At worst, a valuable bench player. If Doumit is in RF, he is an upgrade over Hart, and as a switch-hitter, he's not dealing with platoon issues. Then consider upgrading the bullpen over Jorge Julio (say, with Chris Smith from Nashville).

I'd love to get this guy, not sure if he'll be available. The Bucs traded their two best player last year. Think with Bay playing as well as he is for the BoSox, they might be in a bad PR spot to make a deal on a guy they have wrapped up for two years.

I don't think Doumit has played enough in the OF for us to say this with certainty.

Julio has negative value to the Pirates, he doesn't make any sense for them.

This is a fairly interesting idea. I don't think it would happen, but if the Brewers were in contention in late July and Kendall is still OPSing less than .600 it might be something to consider.

Edit: I should have thought of this earlier, but if the Pirates were to trade Doumit, Hart doesn't make any sense either. The Pirates would want younger, cheaper players.

Brandon Moss has been terrible for Pirates. Jaramillo has been quite good behind the plate. I think Pirates will use Doumit in LF when he comes back. They need all the bats they can get. I don't see them trading Doumit. His contract is reasonable.

Maybe the Pirates would take Nelson for Hinske once Doumit is back playing.

I was looking at Doumit for a left handed bat that could hit at catcher. Jaramillo seems like their future at catcher. He actually reminds me a lot of a young Kendall. Maybe Taylor Green would be enough?

Like many posts I see in this forum... I do not understand why the other team would make that trade.

Because the Pirates need a lot more help than just Doumit? Jaramillo seems like he is the future at catcher.

Brandon Moss

I think their outfield is well-spoken for in the not too distant future. Three centerfielders...a platoon-type left fielder....and a tool-box of a right fielder who absolutely DOMINATED in his first taste of the Pirates' system (before his Wife-gate incident). That's to say nothing about the fact that this gent was their clean-up hitter to begin the season. I don't see a match, unless we are ready to part with Alcides (though I also remember a certain fleecing involving our former closer). I like the guy, but he would be our new Ben Sheets, and are we all ready to give another extention to that same type of player? Injury-prone!
