Brad Nelson

Recommended Posts

Just to interject, but I was puzzled earlier in the season when Ned said something to the effect that Hart would not be a back up at first base. If our goal is to win now then given the current roster construction playing Corey at first in the event of a DL stint for Prince is the best move. Same thing if Hardy goes down you have to move Hall back to SS. I think it would be a little bit silly to not keep as many of our best hitters in the line-up.

I think brad nelson has value...not a lot, but some...he's hitting well at AAA as a 24 year old...and he's not on the 40 man, so if he were traded, he wouldn't affect a team's roster until the end of the season...

I'm not saying Brad nelson has completely turned it around, but he's still plenty young and talented enough to have a real career in the majors...

The smaretest thing the Brewers could do is let him play the full season in AAA, then add him to the 40 man after the season...if he mashes all year, you can trade him then...

of course, if he mashes all season, you could let him take Menchkin's roster spot...

Brad is the type of guy who still has some value. We've been talking about him so long on this board we forget he is still relatively young. If the Brewers remain playing the way they are and I'm an opposing GM I ask for him to be thrown in as essentially an extra guy if we are buying knowing Doug would do it.

If he keeps up what he's doing right now he might find himself competing for a spot on our bench next year, if he wants to stick around.

You might be able to compare him to Gabe Gross, as a high pick who somewhat fell out of favor with his parent club. During his good years, Nelson has carried a very tasty OBP, but unlike Gross he hits LHP very well. But as for trade bait, he'd be a throw in just like Gabe was.

I'm interested to see if Nelson continues his hot April. I'll be watching the box scores for him.

  • 2 weeks later...

would any other GM really buy that? that Melvin has an untouchable player he really needs as a backup 1B?

heck, we moved Hart to 3rd pretty much when Fielder first arrived, so Melvin's track record shows he's fine with no other prospect at 1st then Fielder.

it's moot, his average is back down where it's been since the injury.

He just doesn't seem to keep it going, today he was 0-4 with 3 Ks. I know it's a small sample (again), but that's pretty much the stat line I will remember when he's gone.
