Do we still trade Jenks?

I understand that Jenkins is off to a great start, but he's been so streaky that I think we should sell high here. That's one thing Melvin likes to do.

Teams that do need an outfielder that could offer us bullpen help: Oakland, Minnesota, Yankees, Braves, and Padres.

I'm sure there are more, but these teams will contend and could use a rental in Jenks.

Jenks and a minor league reliever to the Braves for Mike Gonzalez? Langerhans is hitting less than .100 and the Braves bullpen looks pretty good right now.

I really have a gut feeling that we will need a solid lefty out of the pen other than Shouse. Guys like Luke Scott, Adam Dunn, Chris Duncan, Edmonds, Floyd, Jones, LaRoche all kill right handed pitching.

It might be an opportune time to get Gross more at-bats and improve our pen.

Melvin is just not going to trade Jenkins while:

A) He's helping the team, both offensively and defensively

B) He's happy to be here and is a good influence

C) He's the longest tenured Brewer who has represented the City of Milwaukee very positively during his stay here.

While it may look good on paper to move him while he's hot, it would be a pretty classless move by Melvin and the organization to dump our longest tenured player, who has been our best player in past years, in order to "improve" the team.

Melvin will probably let Jenkins walk next year, and that's fine. However, Jenkins is a huge part of our success right now, and he deserves to be here as our run at the NL Central unfolds. Therefore, as long as he's playing well and we are in contention, Jenkins is going nowhere, and I'm happy about that.

I've never been a Jenkins-hater, so I hope he stays. Personally, I would have liked a Mench/Hendrickson for Jesse Crain trade back in winter. Would have made sense at the time, given the uncertainty of Minnesota's rotation at the time. Plus, they were one of the teams going after Mench before the deadline last summer (settling on Phil Nevin instead).

And to the Mike Gonzalez trade notion. That will never happen. The Braves gave up too much to get him (LaRoche), and I can't see them swapping LaRoche for Jenkins straight-up...which is, in effect, what that would mean. I just don't see a match with the Braves. Shoring up the bullpen was their primary offseason objective...they're not going to trade from that new-found strength.

I agree that right now we don't trade Jenks unless we can improve the team in a big way.

Don't agree with the classless statement if he is traded. Melvin feels he can improve the team, with including Jenks in the trade he is going to do it. Tebure and being with the team during the lean years doesn't give you any more right to not be moved than a top prospect coming up.

IMO Jenks plays all year in Milwaukee as long as team is in the race and he will be getting headlines if they make the playoffs as he was here for so long.

Doug would trade his mom if it gave the Crew a title.

If Jenkins wanted to stay, he'd have signed a cheap deal with a no-trade. He did not. He got market value, and he accepted. As long as he's on the team, I admire his loyal service. If he's dealt or leaves, that's part of the business, and best of luck to him.

I say no, i grow up with Jenkins being my favorite player and he is the most deserving guy to stay on the team. He has been playing great on both sides and how unfair would it be to him if he went through all those crappy seasons then finally they become a team who can make a run and they trade him away. Hes a great role-model and leader for all these young guys and i'd like to see him finish in Milwaukee....but thats just me. I also feel the same about Benny Sheets.

I think Mench, Gross are the most likely of the 6 OF to get trade i think. I think Gross could be a everyday starter for someone and Mench is back to his old form that we didnt get to see last year and he easy be a starter on most teams.

Baseball is a business. You think Jenkins would stay here for less money once he hits the FA market just because we stuck by him? No. No chance at all. I say if we get a good deal for him, make it happen.

I could totally see Jenkins traded even if we were doing well down the stretch. Gross could probably provide 75% of Jenkins' production, and even Gwynn is a lefty and could fill the platoon to a smaller extent. Then for Jenks we get a really solid reliever, probably from another contending team (since who'd want Jenks and his contract if you're not contending).

so we fill a pretty crucial relief spot for the stretch run, plus we're not sacrificing any major prospect.

to me, a player as talented as Gallardo is more valuable to the future of this club then to trade him away for a stronger push to the playoffs.

No way would I trade Jenkins this year, in fact I'd bring him back next year too, and platoon him with someone, likely Hart.

We need 100% of Jenkins production, at the least, not 75%.

I'm also thinking about Jenkins' production throughout his career in September (.920 career OPS, 37 HR's in 177 games). I'd be willing to bet it might continue in October. For that reason alone he's one of the last guys I'd trade at the deadline unless the Brewers are out of contention.
