Latest on Capellan: Giants, Rockies, Devil Rays, Nationals

I didn't even realize that Kim was still in the league.

I used to kind of like that idea, but now I'm pretty sure that he's useless. I think I'd prefer that they just hang onto Capellan rather than trade him for someone like Kim/Barmes/etc.

kim is an intreaguing commodity. the problem is how do you use him? he used to be a great closer, then he fell apart. he was an ok starter, but then he would throw mistake pitches and get bombed. a long reliever/spot starter? a middle short reliever? I'm not really sure where he could best be utilized to fully utilize his talent.

he does have talent. no question.

but he makes a lot of mistakes. Are the mistakes he makes based on bad pitches? or bad calls from his catcher? the rockies have not been known for their catchers.

I don't know.

given a choice of Capellan or Kim it's a tough call. kim is only 28 years old. His last good year was in 2003. I think it would be unfair to Kim to just look at his stats. his stats for the last 3 years have been admittedly worse than mediocre. A question would be does he still have his good stuff? and could we correct his bad pitches and bad habits?

Kim would have excited me two years ago, now not so much.

I know this has been suggested elsewhere, but what do you guys think it would take to convince Houston that Lidge needs a "change of scenery." I know that the chances of a Lidge trade are about .1% since he is within the division and still ultra-talented, but I'm just curious to hear what the perceived value for him is right now.

I think Kim has made it known that he prefers to start - and isn't happy when he's not. I don't see the match - or the value.

If Cappy's arm is having issues - or some other issues that force the team to want to get rid of him - I can see trading him while we can get something. But if he's still got velocity, then you don't give away young, strong, cheap arms for a 7th starter.

If his arm is tired and needs to recover, then let him go on the DL for a while. If he needs to work on mechanics, do it at Nashville. But don't unload Jose just to unload him. Sooner or later (usually sooner than later) we'll need an arm in the pen or rotation due to injury or ineffectiveness. With a few solid outings at AAA, I could see him getting called up within weeks (not as a starter, as Carlos V. would get that call, and JOse would take his spot).

Last year's team featured 23 players appearing in relief (not quite Cincinattiesque, but close). I don't want to rely (in some cases, can't rely on) the likes of Adams, Mabeus, Lehr, Fernandez, Hendrickson, Eveland, JDLR, Demaria, Kolb, Simpson, Gonzalez, Helling, or the immortal Winkelsas to get called up, picked up on waivers, or whatever when needed.

So, hang on to Cappy unless we get something good in return. Unless there's something wrong with him physically, he'll probably be back sooner than later - and we'll be thrilled to have him over some of the other options.

In a world where Marquis gets $7M per and Lilly/Suppan get $10M, we're thinking Kim doesn't have value? C'mon, even his past couple years make him pretty decent. I think he'd thrive in KC or another media market where he could start every 5th day.

with regards to cappy, the brewers' history will reflect we've given away a lot of pitchers who later turned into being great middle relievers for other teams. David Weathers comes to mind as a recent example. I would believe the reason Cappy is still with us is that melvin realizes he does have talent. obviously several other teams have made inquiries. I would hate to give up on cappy and have him join the long list of great middle relievers that were once brewers.

as for Lidge, interdivison trades happen more often than people will openly admit. the brewers have made trades with the cardinals and cubs in the past 5 years. the pirates have made trades with several teams in our division. the reds have made trades with the cubs and other central divison teams. Admittedly, these trades didn't involve star players. but star players are very rarely traded anyway.

I looked at some of lidge's stats, and I saw an awesome reliever on paper. he's 31, so maybe he's starting to lose his edge. but he has a tremendous ko/walk ratio, a great batting average, a great whip. he did give up a lot of homers last year compared with previous years. perhaps he was just challenging hitters, and they met the challenge. I just looked at Chad cordero's stats from last year. Lidge gave up 10 homers. Chad cordero gave up 13 last year. Francisco Cordero gave up 5 homers as a ranger and 2 as a brewer. Turnbow gave up 8 homers.

I would have no problem acquiring lidge and trying to straighten his psych. I' m not sure what the Astros would want in return. And an acquisition of lidge or Cordero is going to add to an already inflated payroll. Would i trade turnbow for lidge? Capellan for lidge? mench for lidge? vargus for lidge and let Villueza start?

i don't know.

i don't think i would go for a "sexson deal" if i was the crew... look how that worked for arizona.. gambling all those chips for one player that we don't know how long will be here is a bad idea in my opinion. not to mention he is a pitcher...arm problems? I don't want to risk 5-6 players for 1.

BK Kim does interest me however I would think he has to be a free agent soon. If he's gone after this year I would pass on the deal .He has been in the league forever. I personally would like to see him setup in the 7th for Turnbow.

one of my baseball books said he was traded to the Reds last 6 September for cash considerations although he never pitched for the reds. . very odd. Since he's back with Colorado, I have to believe he was signed to a minimum contract.

kim is an intreaguing player. but sometimes it's best to just stay on the interstate freeway than to take the short cut.

Well sorry kim, paying you $2.5 million is just too much to take a flyer on you, and being able to correct your bad habits.

I'm begining to really get interested in acquiring brad lidge though. Buy now while his value is low.

julio is out as the closer for florida. gardner was sent dow n t o AAa and tankersley was brought up. Look for tankersley or owens as the new florida closer. the marlins manager has said he won't reveal his plans.

That move won't work out. When's the last time the Marlins developed any young talent?

Geez, that organization is run scarily well, even though I'll admit they seem to toe the line of "Frugal" and "Exploiting the ____ out of MLB's revenue sharing"

This stinks, as Tankersley was a guy I'd hoped the Crew could snag in a deal, but oh well. I think I was informed even back in the offseason that he'd cost us more than expected

what's the latest? Just assuming capellan is here for the time being and nothing is really being done.

I don't think he's going anywhere. If his agent doesn't shut his mouth to the media, nobody is going to offer us anything that would actually motivate us to move him.
