Longest winning streak over one team

Recommended Posts

"It was the Brewers' 17th consecutive victory over the Pirates, the longest such streak in the major leagues in 39 years. The Baltimore Orioles topped the expansion Kansas City Royals 23 times in a row from May 10, 1969 to Aug. 2, 1970."

But is that the longest streak ever, or have there been even longer streaks further back?

Baseball-reference.com has team head-to-head info dating back to 1901. In looking through those details, I couldn't find a streak longer than the 23-game streak by Baltimore over KC.

If they want to match the Baltimore streak they'll have to do it all on the road... next 6 games are at PNC, and then they have 3 more at MP.

Does anyone know what the record is for consecutive home games won against a particular team?

On Brewers live yesterday they showed the ML record and it was 27 games from 1883-1884. It was the Providence Greys over the Detroit Wolverines.

Here is a link to the 1883 and 1884 schedule for Providence.

The one thing that is really unusual about this streak is that this isn't a case of a top team vs an expansion team. In fact if you throw out the head to head games, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh have pretty close records.
