Diehard Sounds fans can watch the series in Iowa via MiLB.TV. The cost is $6.95 monthly, $29.95 for the season for live and archived video feeds. The Sounds will likely be on MiLB.TV approx. 15-20 times this season, I'd imagine. It does not appear single game purchases are still available any longer, and blackouts (Des Moines area in this case) do apply.

First inning for Jeffress went strikeout, walk, walk, HBP, strikeout, strikeout.

So talented, so frustrating.

Was it Jeffress who said earlier this spring that he was working on being less of a strikeout pitcher to give him the ability to go deeper into games or was that someone else?

Dillard gives up 3 in the first but rights the ship. Salome goes yard finally, maybe he's starting to break out. Nashville with 5 runs and no RBIs for Gamel, that's a rarity these days. Nashville up 5-3 to the bottom of the 5th.

Jeffress follows up the first inning noted above with a Single, throwing error, walk, both runners move up on a FC and then a single but a play at the plate saves a run. Nothing note worthy prospect wise from the hitters thus far. Game is tied 1-1 in the 3rd.

2 HRs and a BB hurt Rivas who threw very well after the HR in the 1st until a single, walk, and HR plated 3 runs in the 6th on him. Haydel has 2 hits and BC has 5 XBH including a 3B and lead 6-4 going into the 7th.

Bowman pitches well, only 1 BB against 3 Ks and Lawrie goes yard, WI up 1-0 through 4.

Trejo goes 0-3... he might be better off back in Helena, damn. 7-9 for WI is pretty brutal right now.

edit. How does Escobar only have 3 doubles, next time he goes yard he has as many HR as 2B

I think Jeffress' performance thus far deserves a demotion on the "Power 50"

I am starting to doubt he will ever be an effective major league pitcher.

Jeffress is 21 years old playing in AA, and he's K'ing well over 1 per inning. He'll be fine, it could click for him at any time. I understand being frustrated, but theres no reason to draw premature conclusions. At this age, Justin Verlander was still an extremely wild college pitcher.

I guess you've lost track of him, but it suddenly started to click for him mid-season last year, and he's been very, very good since then.

Brett Lawrie is a hitting machine. His OPS is up to 992 with tonight's performance. He was facing Eric Hosmer tonight, who was described as the best HS hitter in last years draft, where was drafted 3rd overall. His OPS was 675 before going 0-4 tonight.

Stuff is never a waste of time. Pitchers with a good fastball can stick around the big-leagues just about as long as a left-handed pitcher with a heartbeat. As X as noted, he has pitched much better over the last year and has showed signs of improvement. The fact that he still misses bats at AA is encouraging, and also as noted, he's still plenty young.

From the moment the Brewers drafted Jeffress, we all knew he was a work in progress, and it's a little surprising to think that was only three years ago. Having him enjoying some success while also working out the lumps at AA in his third full professional season is going to cause me to keep him high on my P50 contribution. Also, look at his career innings pitched mark. He entered the year a shade over 200. Give him a full year this year at AA and a full year next year at AAA and he still may make his big-league debut at 22 years of age, and he still is likely going to be under 500 innings pitched. The one big-league pitcher that Jeffress reminds me of is Edison Volquez, who had about 550 innings of work in the minors before finally sticking in the big-leagues, and even then he was up and down a few years with the Rangers before being dealt to the Reds.

Final: Wisconsin 2, Burlington (Royals) 0

Wisconsin Site Game Summary

Rattlers get first shutout

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Three Wisconsin Timber Rattler pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout of the Burlington Bees on Tuesday night. Brett Lawrie drove in both Wisconsin runs in the 2-0 victory. The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Timber Rattlers. This was also the first shutout tossed by Rattler pitching in 2009.

Wisconsin (10-14) grabbed a 1-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Brett Lawrie crushed a 2-0 offering from Burlington starter Manauris Baez deep to left. The homer was Lawrie's fourth of the season.

Lawrie put the Rattlers up 2-0 with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Timber Rattler starter Michael Bowman pitched the first four innings and allowed three hits while walking one and striking out three. Daniel Meadows, who came on in the top of the fifth, did not allow a hit and walked one in four innings out of the Timber Rattler bullpen. Meadows would pick up his team-leading third win of the season with his performance.

Rattler closer Jim Henderson worked a perfect ninth inning to remain perfect in seven save opportunities.

Burlington (7-17) only had two runners on base once in the game and saw their team batting average drop to .200 on the season.

Game two of the series is Wednesday night. Wisconsin has Cody Scarpetta (0-1, 4.70) as the scheduled starting pitcher. Kelvin Herrera will be making his first appearance of the season for the Bees. Game time is 6:35 PM.

Wisconsin Box Score

Daniel Meadows a 6'5" 235 lb. lefty -- that has to be imposing; obviously kudos to Michael Bowman as well; Brett Lawrie 8-for-12 in SB attempts, caught stealing here on an otherwise excellent evening...

Wisconsin Game Log

Edgar Trejo could have broken it open in the 4th -- bases loaded, two outs, groundout to short; nice crowd over 3,300 -- good job, guys and gals...

Brevard County Box Score

Manatees already with a six-game division lead; in four starts prior to tonight, Threshers starting pitcher Yohan Flande had allowed one run in 24 innings -- the 'Tees got to him for six earned runs in six innings; ho-hum, three more scoreless innings for the Brevard bullpen -- it's time for Pitching Coach Fred Dabney to get a mention -- kudos; Lee Haydel 3-for-5 with his third triple, Haydel made for FSL ballparks, but 22 of his 27 hits have been singles; Logan Schafer with two doubles, now with 11 extra-base hits among his 32 knocks; Zelous Wheeler (.376 OBP) walked twice, now with 13 walks vs. only 15 K's in 86 AB's...

Nashville Pre-Game Audio Chat with First Baseman Joe Koshansky

Final: Nashville 8, Iowa (Cubs) 6

Nashville Site Game Summary:

Link for Tim Dillard photo, text follows --

Sounds Win Second Straight Against I-Cubs, 8-6

DES MOINES - Catcher Angel Salome homered and drove in five runs to lead the Nashville Sounds over the Iowa Cubs, 8-6, on Tuesday evening at Principal Park.

Nashville starter Tim Dillard (5-0) handed the I-Cubs their fifth straight loss while improving his record to a league-leading 5-0. Mitch Atkins (1-3) took the loss for Iowa.

Salome tied the game in the second inning with his first homer of the season, a towering three-run shot to center. His two-run double to the right-center field gap in the fifth inning chased Atkins and helped the Sounds stretch their lead to 8-3.

AUDIO: Angel Salome Three-Run HR

Iowa scored three times in the bottom of the first to grab an early 3-0 lead against Dillard before the Salome evened things in the top of the second with a three-run blast to center off Atkins.

Nashville grabbed a 5-3 lead in the second on an Alcides Escobar RBI single and a Joe Koshanksy run-scoring double before upping the advantage to 8-3 with a three-run sixth, which was highlighted by a Salome two-run double.

The Cubs chipped away at the Nashville lead with two runs in their half of the sixth inning. Robinson's one out double plated Brad Snyder, who had doubled to lead off the inning, and pinch-hitter Doug Deeds singled to drive in Robinson two batters later.

Back-to-back doubles by Jason Dubois and Robinson with one out in the eighth cut the Sounds' lead to 8-6, but Nashville reliever Dave Johnson worked out of the jam and closer Chris Smith worked a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.

Iowa's Brad Snyder extended his hitting streak to 15 games, finishing the night 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored, to match the longest hit streak in the league this season, set by the Sounds' Tony Gwynn earlier in the year.

The Cubs and Sounds will meet in the third game of their four-game series at Principal Park on Wednesday afternoon. Iowa's Jose Ascanio (0-1, 1.25) will oppose Nashville hurler and former I-Cub Mike Burns (3-0, 3.00). First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 PM.

Nashville Box Score

Tim Dillard allowed five runs in his six innings, but classic Tim with a 14-to-2 ground ball ratio and only one walk, plus batters hitting only .202 against him on the season -- he's a real solid option for the big league Crew if needed; 12-of-14 in steals for Alcides Escobar, need to lift that .312 OBP, though; Joe Koshansky 5-for-his-last-10 and Angel Salome 6-for-his-last-17, but it'll take a while to pull those batting averages up from rough April's...

Final: Huntsville 13, West Tenn (Mariners) 10

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Stars Survive Wild Opener at West Tenn

Offense Comes Alive in Series Opener

Brett Pollock, Huntsville Stars

Adam Stern delivered a two-out, two-run single to snap a tie in a four-run eighth inning and propel Huntsville to a 13-10 win over West Tenn Tuesday night in the opener of a five-game set at Pringles Park. The Stars snapped a five-game slide to improve to 11-12 and pull to within a game and a half of front-running Tennessee in the North Division, while the Diamond Jaxx fell to 10-14.

Stern came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth against Marwin Vega in a 7-7 game and singled into center field on a 1-2 pitch to give the visitors their third lead of the night at 9-7. Adam Heether followed with a two-run double to finish the rally and make a loser out of Vega, who fell to 0-2, although all four runs were unearned due to an Oswaldo Navarro throwing error earlier in the frame. Huntsville tacked on two runs in the ninth against Josh Fields, Seattle's number one draft choice last year, and took a six-run cushion into the ninth inning.

Omar Aguilar opened the ninth on the hill and issued two walks and gave up a double to load the bases with nobody out before Yamid Haad singled in a run to cut the lead to five. Pinch-hitter and former Milwaukee Brewer draft pick Ronny Prettyman struck out and Jeff Dominguez followed with a base hit to knock in another run and chase Aguilar from the game. Robert Hinton took over and got Matt Mangini to ground out, which chased in a run to make it 13-10, before former Stars' outfielder Mel Stocker struck out to end the highest scoring game the Stars have played in this season. Hinton nailed down his third save, all since April 24.

Drew Anderson led off the second inning with an opposite field home run to left field to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. It was his second of the season and the first for the Stars since his three-run blast in the 3rd inning on April 22 at Carolina. West Tenn tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second and moved out to a 3-1 lead on a two-run single by Haad in the home third. Stars' starter Jeremy Jeffress was lifted after three frames, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits, while walking five and fanning four.

Jonathan Lucroy's leadoff long ball in the fourth, his second of the season and first since Opening Day, pulled the Stars within 3-2 only to see the Jaxx add a run in the bottom half of the frame to push the lead back to two. The teams traded runs in the fifth before the Stars erupted for four runs in the sixth to reclaim the lead at 7-5. Vinny Rottino and Freddy Parejo singled in runs and both would score when the catcher Haad threw into center field trying to cut down Parejo, who was trying to advance to second base on the throw home. However, the lead was short lived, as Marshall Hubbard doubled in two runs with two out in the bottom half of the inning to get the game tied again. Donovan Hand went three innings behind Jeffress, giving up a season-high four runs, three earned, on five hits. Casey Baron tossed scoreless relief in the seventh and eighth innings to earn

The series continues Wednesday morning with left-hander Bobby Bramhall taking the hill for the Stars against Diamond Jaxx left-hander Daniel Christensen. Coverage of the game begins at 10:50 AM central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score

68 pitches for Jeremy Jeffress in his three innings of work -- Jeffress added a HBP to his five walks; not sure we're going to see the real Omar Aguilar until June or so coming off the oblique strain, but nice work by lefty Casey Baron (ERA 1.42) in nine outings thus far; Drew Anderson with an .896 OPS in 16 games since his return to the organization...

Huntsville Game Log

It's 1:00 AM here, and a 13-10 detailed game log review is beyond me right now, but feel free to have at it...
