Put Villy back in long relief?

I believe that this closer/set-up type idea for Villy needs to end. I know Hoffmans here now so Villy will get very few save opps, but why are we wasting our only great option for long relief in this spot? I can think of 2 players who should be set-up over Villy. Coffey and DeFilice.

Anyone else agree?

I would use Coffey as the setup man, with DiFelice getting a shot when he needs a day off. Put CV back in a long relief/multiple inning relief role like McClung is in right now. Maybe even give McClung a shot late in games. And Dillard is being converted into a starter, so he wouldn't get the call if CV went to Nashville. It would likely be Swindle again or possibly even Littleton.

DiFelice should be in a longer role so when a starter gets hurt he can step in and start. Coffey should be the primary setup guy. Villanueva 'proved' last year that he was capable of performing late in games so him 'proving' he isn't capable this year at best offsets that.

CV should be optioned to Nashville for a few weeks. Of course, the difficulty is who to bring up but Dillard would be okay.
CV had a 2.12 ERA in 64 bullpen innings, with 72 Ks last season. He was the unsung hero to our playoff run. No need to send him out yet. He'll find himself soon.

I hope Macha continues to use his relievers in rotation, rather than the over-rigid roles Yost used the pen in last year. Set roles leaves relievers at the mercy of team hot and cold streaks.

Villanueva has been our best reliever over 1 1/2 of the last 2 years.(2008 and first half of 2007 until he wore out) He will be fine. I hope he is used in a multi-inning role more often though.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

He did fine the last two games he pitched. I really don't care about the 2-out, nobody on walk on Thursday. The hit by the next guy was a lucky lunge at a pitch off the plate.

Ya, I agree that we shouldn't over react right now. That being said, I'd like to see him used in multiple innning situations more as well. I thought he really stepped up in situations when a pitcher would give up 5-6 runs in 5 innings but we were still in the game. He would take the ball and go a few innings and keep us in the game. It was never mop up duty but just long relief. That's where I like to see him used.
