Also, can someone explain the date at which the arbitration clock gets pushed back to the next year? Hopefully that makes sense the way I worded that. I am sure some of you know what I am talking about...
We really don't know when a super-two cutoff date would occur, because it's relative to other players. But it's somewhat safe to say that if a player is brought up in mid-June, they probably won't be a super-two player.

The other cutoff is free agency eligibility, and I'm pretty sure it takes complete seasons to rack that up, so I don't think we'd lose a year of service from any of our current minor leaguers if they were brought up now.

After taking a closer look at Coporan's numbers, I'd have no problem giving him the call up. He won't get much playing time regardless, but it would be nice to see him get his first and maybe only taste of the big leagues. It's gotta be him or Rottino.

I don't know if a team has ever went with only one catcher. I suppose it's a longshot of an option, depending upon how below average McGehee is there.

if that is what they do, do you bring in gamel then simply as a pinch hitter. I still think it has to be a catcher. Escobar and Gamel could help us but I'd rather see them get the 4 AB's a day then pinch hit for us every other day.

Seems like it would take a Kendall injury for the replacement to catch. The best offensive option would seem like the right way to go because it seems more likely they would get to pinch hit than to catch.

The Giants at least started the year that way, if they're not still doing it.

Pablo Sandoval can and occasionally does catch.

I'm not sure if Soto ever actually was on the DL when the Cubs were just using Koyie Hill...I don't believe he was.

Me, I'm concerned about Kendall's hand...he got hit quite a bit recently it seems. I'd rather have a backup C there for now.

Kendall will probably catch every game while Rivera's on the DL anyway. I seriously doubt Salome would get called up. We'll probably just see Rottino back in Milwaukee sitting on the bench for 15 days.

I understand that it's important not to mess with a player's development, but if this team is serious about winning you put yourself in the best position to win in the event of a Kendall injury.

If there isn't much of a dropoff between Salome and McGehee then, okay.. but i seriously doubt that's the case.

If they planned Rottino to be the first option to call up if Rivera went down, he would be the Nashville backup, not a utility guy at AA that rarely catches. There was a reason Corporan spent the entire spring in big league camp. It was so the coaches would see him and the pitchers would get to work with him. He's clearly the guy in this scenario. They want Salome playing. Corporan will also still have options after he's called up. Rottino is out of options.

Corporan has worked his way through the system. Many have discounted his chances, but he's still just 25 and may end up with a pretty nice career as a backup catcher.

It makes more sense to add and promote someone they can then demote when Rivera is healthy. Anyone that has to clear waivers or gets thier FA outright.. not a sensible move at this point in time. Later in the season I could see it, but we're just a month in, anything can happen injury wise. I hope Salome stays in Nashville and Rottino in AA for now, Corporan seems like the obvious choice from my point of view.

I doubt options will be a serious concern with Salome, either he'll make it or he won't, he's not going to bounce between MLB and AAA without a legit C in front of him blocking him.
