Time to Feed Yuku - Brewerfan.net Spring Donations

Looks like the well has finally run dry on the contributions we received last summer. While the costs of the "main site" are still under control, we need to feed Yuku so that the ads don't show up in posts. You'll notice that there's a "Contribute Now!" link at the top of the forum. We're not asking for much during this mini-drive.... If you enjoy Brewerfan.net on a regular basis, it would be fantastic if you could throw $5 or $10 in the community chest.

Yuku will walk you right through the process. If you don't have PayPal, you should be offered the option to use a credit/debit card. PayPal would handle the transaction without actually signing you up for an account.

Note the pricing structure. Larger donations let you contribute more views per dollar. As an example, if you're thinking in terms of a $25 donation, $30 will give you more bang for your buck.

In all cases, you'll get some free Yuku Supporter. The amount you get is based on the size of your donation. If you're currently a Yuku Supporter, your subscription will be extended.

As a Yuku Supporter, your views won't be counted against Brewerfan's charged views. Also, you won't see Yuku-generated ads anywhere on Yuku, including profiles or on boards that would normally display ads.

Again, why isn't this forum moved to a self-hosted solution to avoid this frequent "sacrifice" to the Yuku gods?
A self-hosted solution, with the traffic we have, would require a very hefty server. It would also put ME on the hook for anything that goes wrong with the forums. While I'm not a huge Yuku fan, the price differential would be close to a wash anyway, not to mention that exporting data into a new forum would be either quite an effort or not possible.

I'm also not a big fan of open-source forum products, as the risk of them getting hacked isn't something I feel like worrying about.

If you do the $54 they give you 12 months of Yuku Supporter, and as previously mentioned not only are you charitable in nature but you get the added bonus of addless viewing on all forums and you no longer count against BF.net's page views. It's like back to back to back jacks all rolled up in one tidy contribution.

Quoth Yuku:
For every $6 that you donate to a Community, $1 (equal to 1 month) will be added to your own yuku supporter balance. For larger donations this amount is increased.
There are thresholds where a contributor's Yuku Supporter gift is increased. For instance, a $24 contribution gives you four months of Supporter while a $30 contribution gives you six months. A $54 contribution gives you a full year vs. 10 months and 16 days for a $48 contribution.

Awhile back, I plugged some numbers into the contribution thingy to see how much Supporter would be gifted at various amounts.
