Mike Rivera Sprained Ankle...

If he goes on the DL, does Salome get called up for a couple starts?

Just guessing here, but I would think given that Kendall starts the vast majority of the time, that they wouldn't want to have Salome sit and waste the opportunity to keep developing in AAA. I don't know exactly what our other options are though. Maybe a guy like Carlos Corporan would get called up to be backup for a couple weeks? That would require a 40 man move though. How much could McGehee be trusted? Could we go without a true backup catcher for a 15 day DL stint with McGehee on the roster? Hopefully we won't have to answer any of these questions.

I don't believe that Rivera is going to go on the 15 day DL. If anything Rivera will be limited to a pitch hitting role for a week at a minimum and 2 weeks at a maximum. Rivera gets what 1 start a week? Rivera wouldn't be scheduled to play again as the starting catcher until Sunday. If he is scratched from that game his next start would be on next Friday. Plenty of time for that ankle to heal.

Not even worth it to make a roster move at all unless Rivera goes on the 15 day DL which I doubt he will have to go on.

Salome isn't likely, he's struggled out of the gate at the plate.

You can't go more than a couple days with one catcher (yes I know McGehee has played there some). My guess is if he's not ready to go, they bring up Carlos Corporan. Corporan's been gunning down runners with regularity as Salome's backup and has a .500 OBP. Salome needs to play, not sit. They would have to add him to the 40 man which isn't a problem because they are currently at 39/

He's been as bad as Salome in the early going, at a level lower than Salome.

I know Vinny Rottino isn't ripping it up in Huntsville right now. But I think he'd be a decent choice to back up Kendall for what will hopefully be a short time. That will help keep Salome's development going as planned in Nashville. Rottino has been with the big club before so he shouldn't be overwhelmed. And he's a decent utility guy who can play other positions too. I'm not sure who I'd send down if we don't put Rivera on the DL. It'd be really nice if Nelson still had an option remaining.
