Link Report for Tue. 4/28 -- Evan Anundsen NO-HITTER for Brevard!!!!!!!

Mass Haas
Results have nothing to do with projectability... if Jeffress fails as a starter, he might make a reliever, his talent is immense. Cody has a much smaller margin for error, his results are impressive, but his value will diminish much quicker if he stumbles. I'm pretty confident that he'll pitch in the big leagues, but there's no way I'd say today he's a top of the rotation starter... which is where you ranked him. In the end you may be correct, but it's way too early for "I told you so" at this point in time.
True. The full season will tell. So far, though, the results are looking pretty darned good.

The big question: If Cody puts up great numbers at AA (assuming the pwnage continues), do you send him to Nashville in July?

Possibly. I think it will depend more on what happens with the pitcher's below him, then maybe Holliman and Welch... we have a bunch of young starters ticketed for Helena that would likely compete well at WI, so there may be pressure to get those kids looks against some more advanced competition. If Ordorizzi gets bumped up for example, one of the WI pitchers will move up, which will move up one of the BC, pitchers... the whole chain reaction theory.

Now if Braddock comes back and dominates at A+ he'll get bumped to AA, Anundsen may earn a promotion by the break, I'd have to think Rogers will spend the year at A+ getting his arm strength back regardless how well he pitches. There are some other arms at A+ who I'm pretty high on like Rivas that may push their way up.

Selfishly I'd like him to get a taste of AAA, but the AAA rotation is already loaded with depth so it's not like they have a pressing need at this point in time. If one of the AAA rotation gets shuffled up to cover a DL stint there might be room but Cappy is also about a month away from live action and I'd think he'd be ticketed for Nashville.

Wow after all that I guess my point is that the situation is too murky yet for any sort of definitive answer either way.

I would, yes. I've always believed in challenging prospects. There is a fine line between rushing and challenging, but I think you have to keep players challenged so they don't stagnate or become complacent and groove some bad habits that won't play at the upper levels.

I agree with this. One way to get rid of the depth in AAA is to call Dillard up to give our bullpen another multi-inning reliever. I don't think he's going to make it as a starter. He strikes out way too little batters, that's fine if you're getting a ton of ground balls, but he's not doing that either.

Dillard's stats so far (small sample size, of course): 4-0, 4 starts, 23 IP, 1.17 ERA, 1.000 WHIP. Only real worry is a 1:1 K/BB, but Dillard always was more of a ground-ball pitcher. He'd arguably be an improvement over Suppan in the rotation.
