What about Gwynn for Meredith?

I love Tony as our future leadoff hitter but I just have a gut feeling ( I hope is wrong) Team Canada thinks that they need more power and higher OPS from their outfielders. They already have Gross and Nix as lefties in the outfield for a couple more years who have more power than Tony. SD would probably love to get him. I would like one of their catchers (Bowen or Bard) if we did a deal but that is asking too much. Meredith should provide some young bullpen depth if acquired. Thoughts???

I would be calling Florida if they are going to pedal Gwynn. The guy I would love to get from them would be Pinto, but the way he has improved his control this year he may be a tough get at this point.

I would trade him for Hensley, I don't think the Padres are going to move Meredith (or really any young, cheap pitcher - those are the best kind).

 

I would definitely try to trade Gwynn while he's got decent numbers, though.

I swear I was just going to post a trade of this nature. Meredith would be a dream acquisition. Trading Gwynn to the Padres while he is hot is the best case scenario, imo. I don't know if the new regime over there would have interest though.

 

 

Why would you want Bard or Bowen though? They suck offensively and the Padres are on pace to shatter the record for lowest percentage of base-stealers thrown out in a season.

Putting a Gwynn back in San Deigo would be a huge PR move too, something to consider, ticket sales for San Deigo and money generated (i dont know exactly how much or what would happen) but it may be something to consider.

As many people pointed out at the time, the Padres were ready to pounce on Jr. Gwynny in the draft before we swooped in, so there would seem to be a good maount of interest, as he has fulfilled a good amount of the promise he has.
