Surprise - we're last with RISP again

JET15

I was just checking the team stats this AM and I noticed we're last in all of the majors hitting with runners in scoring position. I guess I'm surprised. No one is talking about this. Our pitching seems to get all of the press, but we're not at the bottom with pitching in many categories... close with walking batters.

Granted we're low in all team hitting stats, too, but to be dead last and not even close to the next team says something. Some will argue that the stat is overrated, but I think we're hurt by our hitter performance when it counts.

Talk about small sample alert. I just saw this, so let's use the current stats:

Brewers: .252 BA / .256 BA w/RISP

NL: .258 BA /.252 BA w/RISP

Holy clutch! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif As for the "surprise" part:

2008:

Brewers: .253 BA / .245 BA w/RISP(1413AB)

NL: .264 BA /.260 BA w/RISP

Had the Brewers gotten about 1extra hit w/RISP every 3 games, they would have had a .249 BA w/RISP. That is by no means insignificant but fans act like their favorite team never scores enough w/RISP The Brewers just have a low team BA.

That's 5.4 wins.

I don't believe "clutch" is a repeatable skill, but hitting wRISP is significant.

... which is why i said it was "by no means insignificant." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I only pointed out the "per 3 games" thing to put it in some kind of context. And those 56 less hits probably represent a lot more than 56 runs, depending on when they would have occurred and what kind of hits they were. Look at some of these run values:

OK, since I posted this almost a month ago we have performed way above expectations wRISP and jumped up 12 spots. We're in the middle of the pack for the season, but we must have been way up there during the last month. And what a difference it's been. Some decent defense, timely hitting and, oh, yeah, a closer that slams the door shut every time.

Just let me know if there's any other stats I should complain about, and we'll see if we can get the same 180 effect. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Cheers
