Graffy and Mench Package

Recommended Posts

I'm not necessarily in favor of trading him, but I think we could get something decent for Tony Gwynn right now. Giving him up wouldn't sacrifice a lot of depth either, since we have a ton of OFs, and Counsell and Graffy. Maybe a package of Gwynn and Mench could net the Brewers a solid reliever.

I don't think a Gwynn/Mench package would draw a lot of interest. Not too many teams are looking for two outfielders. I suppose it could be part of a bigger package, but I think its much more likely Mench gets packaged with a pitcher or just traded for a minor-leaguer.

I don't see us dealing Graffy, because we need backup IFs. Counsell is the primary backup now at SS and 3b, with Graffy at 2b and 1b. If we dealt him, I would guess that Rottino could backup 1b and 3b, or Hart at 1b. Who knows really.

If last year should have taught us all a lesson, we need depth.

Now that we have depth we should trade it away?? Where are all the posters that bang the keyboard about we need flexibilty on the bench and some pinch hitting options. This is what depth gives you.

Graffy would be an option at 1B as he played there some for the Royals. Rottino is not even an option to be a 25 man he is an emergency catcher and a weak 3B.

I believe there is could be going on with the White Sox involving one or both of these guys most likely Mench.

I heard the Sox assistant GM today say basically that they are trying to figure out what to do in the OF and he didn't rule out solving it via trade. Later I heard that Kenny Williams is with Charlotte this weekend and it was speculated that he wanted to see which of several guys he would feel comfortable giving up in a deal of some sort.

Now they have two lefty relievers at Charlotte, Reynoso and Vasquez, either of whom might interest the Brewers. The Sox already have 3 lefty relievers on the big club so they are pretty well stocked.

Mench is a nice fit for them in LF. They have too much at stake to trust their young OF. The other guys they have tried out there, Mackowiak and Osuna are basically utility guys.

Mackowiak is a guy that I've always been a fan of. I wouldn't mind getting him and a low-ceiling AAA pitcher (Pollok or Wasserman?) for Mench.

Then Graffy becomes pretty much totally expendable, and they can trade him for an organizational soldier.

An injury to a starter on a team that we are not even thinking about can/will create a need and that is how Mench or Graffy will be dealt.

it happens every year, a team has an injury and they need a middle infielder or a corner outfielder and they don't have minor league depth to fill that need and they trade with a team to fill that need...Melvin will stay on his toes and get decent value when it happens.
