Fangraphs Top 10 Prospects (By Division)

nate82

I'm surprised no one has posted this or I just didn't see it when it was posted. Nothing turned up in the search of the forums.

Fangraphs has ranked the top 10 prospects for each team in each division.

NL West, NL Central, NL East, AL West, AL Central.

The AL East will be there tomorrow I believe.

From the fangraphs article.

The Milwaukee Brewers

1. Alcides Escobar, SS, Nashville (AAA)

2. Mat Gamel, 3B, Nashville (AAA)

3. Brett Lawrie, 2B, Wisconsin (A)

4. Jeremy Jeffress, RHP, Huntsville (AA)

5. Angel Salome, C, Nashville (AAA)

6. Cutter Dykstra, OF, Wisconsin (A)

7. Lorenzo Cain, OF, Huntsville (AA)

8. Jonathan Lucroy, C, Huntsville (AA)

9. Jake Odorizzi, RHP, Extended Spring Training

10. Taylor Green, 3B, Injured

Other Players of Note: Cole Gillespie, Zack Braddock, Caleb Gindl, Cody Scarpetta, Eric Farris, Lee Haydel, Efrain Nieves, Joe Koshansky, Nick Green

Former Brewer prospects

Cleveland Indians

2. Matt LaPorta, OF, Columbus (AAA)

7. Michael Brantley, OF, Columbus (AAA)

Pretty close to what the national media thinks of the Brewers minor league system. I'm disappointed Logan Schafer didn't make the list.

I don't get all the Dykstra love to be quite honest. Yes he's athletic, but he didn't set the world on fire in Helena like we seen some other HS kids do such as Gindl. I also realize his dad had a successful career, but I don't put much stock in what the father did steroids aside... Bonds was a much better player than his father and Rose wasn't even close to the player his father was. Cutter's bat just isn't projectable like Lawrie's is, and there's no way he's a better prospect right now than Cain. What's he done to be rated higher than the other players on the list?

With Lawrie I understand the high placement because his bat appears to be so special and he's already backing up his placement.

While I agree he's too high on the list, who are these other HS hitters that had better than an 805 OPS in Helena? Sure, Fielder did, but he's kind of special. Hardy has a 662 OPS in Ogden (the brewers pioneer league entry back then). Hart has a 698 OPS his 1st year there, then repeated the league. Salome only played in Arizona his 1st year, and only had a 592 OPS.

Cutters 367 OBA was pretty impressive, and he was playing through injuries most of the summer.

Also, Gindl needs to hit much better than Dykstra, he's a corner OF, not a CF.

I wasn't looking to debate Dykstra's merits with you again my friend, just commenting on his placement on the various lists which all seem to be loosely based off of BA's list, and BA doesn't think much of the system. I had forgotten about Salome's AZ appearance, I was thinking Fielder, Salome, and Gindl... I didn't mention Prince by name because I didn't want people to think that I was trying to compare Cutter's expectations to Prince when I wasn't.

I might be mistaken but I don't recall Hardy debuting on the list in the top 10 and I'm sure Hart didn't, Hart never got much love from BA.
