Gulp, my first trade proposal

Hall and Capellan for Broxton assuming Jose does well and Weeks isn't terminal this year.

The Dodgers are desparate for for a bat and a 3rd baseman. Broxton gets us insurance for Turnbow and Cordero. Heck, we all know he's better than either right now, but what a killer bullpen. When Cordero walks we're covered.

Our outfield becomes Jenkins, Gwynn, Hart or Jenks, Gross, Hart.

I've got to admit I've got a total man-crush on Broxton. I just think he's the next big-thing waiting to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be Gagne-good (hopefully without the arm problems).

I do the Jenks thing in a heartbeat, but I don't know where the crew would put Wilson long term unless it's the bench.

i think you are drastically overpaying for broxton here....

i'm not sold on trading for relievers...

i think if doug has proven anything its that you can get good relievers for next to nothing (coco not withstanding)

we got shouse for enrique cruz, wise for free, turnbow for free, spurling for free, CV for wayne franklin, and cappellan for dan kolb, who we got for a minor league reliever who's name i've forgotten...

anyway, i think trading hall for a reliever is akin to bowden trading kearns and lopez for majewski last year...very shortsighted...

The Mustache usually doesn't value relievers that highly, either. Cordero was the exception, not the rule.

Melvin was looking to get best value in trading Carlos, so took the best package. Not sure that Coco is of great value to Doug.

also Brad, even Melvin Taylor and Bando had good relievers. They acquired Wickman, Fox, Weathers, etc.

I don't see the Dodgers having a need at 3b. They like Betemit, LaRoche, and Tony Abreu. If they really want to buff up their offense, they can play Loney at 1b and Nomar at 3b.

I think Melvin loves Cordero. He was clearly the centerpiece of that deal, even though many will have you believe Mench was. That's just not true.

Cordero is like an everyday player, he's the rare closer that can handle a big workload and make a difference in 75-80% of the teams games.

His Win Shares have gotta be off the charts Mariano Rivera good right now.

I totally take your point about relievers, and if I didn't think Broxton was gonna be extra special I'd agree. Of course I'd like to just give up Hart or the like for him, but I think the Dodgers think he's gonna be their closer for years to come, hence some real talent to pry him away.

P.S. I never really thought of something like this till the Padres showed me you could practically build a team around relievers. (overstating for affect)

geynn is the one the brewers should move...he has more value than anyone else right now compared to his role on the team, and he has been playing above his head...you could probably spin him for something pretty good...

ya know that guy down in AAA, charles Thomas? well he once had a TGJ like run and the braves traded him...for tim hudson...

TGJ+zach jackson coulsd probably be made into a good major leaguer...
