What are other GMs offering for Yo right now?

Not that GM DM would ever pull the trigger, but what are teams calling in as trade fodder?

What could he fetch by himself on the open market?

Pick a team that makes sense (almost any of them do as it is young, premium pitching we are talking about) and find a match for the brewers lineup/needs/payroll...

I am very curious to see what people think Yo Gallardo could actually bring in...any thoughts?

EDIT: removed excessive punctuation from subject line. Keep Brewerfan beautiful. - bta

You wouldn't get anywhere near his worth, because it's still all "potential". Yo should not be dealt unless we're getting a perennial all-star in return.

Everyone talks about our pitching staff being solid. The last three weeks tell a different story. We have a bunch of "good" starters, but lack "great" ones. I think Gallardo can be that guy, so why deal him?

I would try to do the opposite, and pick up a guy like Lincecum, Hughes, or Bailey. The price would obviously be steep, but I would explore those rather than give up Gallardo. Gallardo and Bailey would look pretty nice at the top of the Brewers 2008-2013 rotation.

If we decide to trade Yo, this is what I think we could get:

Nick Swisher

Carl Crawford

Kinsler and Otsuka

Kotchman and Shields

Ichiro

Nick Markakis and Danys Baez

Alex Rios

J.D. Drew and Manny Delcarmen

Jose Tabata and Melky Cabrera

Craig Monroe and Rodney

Cuddyer or Hunter

Josh Fields and Jenks

Billy Butler or Teahan and Dotel

Cliff Lee or Travis Snider and Casey Blake

Kelly Johnson and Jarod Saltamacchia (Spelling?)

Carlos Gomez or Heilman and Shawn Green

Tom Gordan and Shane Victorino

Jeremy Hermida and Kevin Gregg

Ryan Church and Chad Cordero

Scott Linebrink and Mike Cameron

Armando Benitiz, Pedro Feliz, and Randy Winn

Carlos Quentin and Alberto Callaspo

Matt Holliday

Matt Kemp and Jonathon Broxton

Brad Lidge, Chris Burke, and Luke Scott

Felix Pie and Angel Guzman

Andrew McClutchen and Solomon Torres

Chris Duncan and Jason Isringhausen

These are just what I think he is worth to the Brewers. Many of these teams wouldn't do these trades. I doubt the DM is even listening to any offers right now anyways. Also, some of these trades would have to include any one of Mench, Graffy, Latin Cappy, etc.

HEY HEY...re-read the subject line...it's not what could we get/should we trade Yo...

but rather what are other teams offering--as in you were the OTHER GM from any other team...try again...

That's what I meant. I am of the assumption that Yo needs to prove himself at the ML-level before he is going to garner true blockbuster trades. That said, the only player I could see the Brews using Yo to obtain would be Miggy Cabrera....or Brian McCann.

Picking Rogers over Bailey was the biggest head scratcher I've seen by Jack Z since he's been here. I remember being very upset we didn't pick Bailey at the time, the consensus (well almost I guess) #1 high school pitcher among scouts.

I wouldn't trade Yo for less than a "young" AS OF.

However,

Pitching has not been the main problem.

Start with the awful production with the few runners we have had in scoring position.

The Brewers are dead last in hitting in the NL with runners in scoring position and the reason is the awful hitting through out the lineup for the last 3 weeks.

It started in the Nationals series.

No pitching has been a problem. Capuano had three horrendous starts in a row. Suppan had two bad starts against the Mets and Phillies. Vargas has been himself. Really only Sheets has been good throughout May.

That accounts for 5 losses. What about the other 10 or so games that have been lost in the stretch.

Can anyone reply to the thread???

Who asked if pitching was a problem?

Who asked if we should trade Yo based on potential?

Who asked anything about Homer Bailey or Jack Z??

I have gotten maybe three decent answers from people that just write what they want to rant/vent about...I thought I could gain something from this forum...maybe not.

Pick another team, gauge value from outside our team, and estimate what OTHER GMs are putting on Melvin's pager...

and before you write a reply to my tone...don't even bother, it would only speak to your inability to once again...reply to the thread.

Thank you very much, most sincerely, Rousieboy http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'll bite. This is what I believe EVERY other team has offered for Yo:

Nothing.

If I was another team, I would see that Milwaukee has a very talented pitcher on the verge of becoming a major leaguer. I understand with Milwaukee's philosophy that they need to build from within to have continued success and that cheap, plus-pitching is a crucial part of that. Therefore, Milwaukee is going to value Gallardo even more than my team and I will have to overpay for his services. If I offer what I'm willing to give up to get the still unproven Gallardo, I'm not only wasting both teams' time, but also possibly insulting Doug Melvin with an inferior offer.

I just don't see a reason for another team to even bother making an offer for Gallardo unless Melvin puts him on the block.

What did other teams offer OAK for Rich Harden when he was a spec?

The Brewers are in the same boat as Oakland, they need to manage their resources in a financial and personnel aspect. I think everyone around the league realizes Gallardo is going nowhere. I know it's fun to speculate sometimes, but we need to get on board with that, too.

We aren't going to get Carl Crawford.

if I were an opposing GM, Yo would be the first guy I asked about once playoff-trading begins.

When Milwaukee inquired to the Expos about Gary Bennett, Prince Fielder was the guy they demanded, so no reason anything would be different about Yo. Sure glad the Crew kept Fielder, though.

All I can say is, "Whaa?!?"

I don't think I would ever talk to the Expos again if all I wanted was a piece of junk backup catcher and they asked for one of the top ten prospects in the game... that said, I hope that report was either a joke or incorrect.

Also, the question wasn't who is Melvin trying to get and other teams are asking for Yo in return, but rather who's calling the Brewers about Yo and what are they hoping to ditch on us for him. And I'm fairly convinced no one's calling the Brewers about Yo until Melvin publically states he's available for no apparent reason.
