Olney thinks Teixera is on the block, where is he gonna go?

I would think the Yankees would pounce on that given the latest injuries and statements involving Giambi. I know Giambi is DH, but couldn't/wouldn't they do the same thing with Teix? What about the Astros making a move for him? Shift Berkman back to the outfield, and all of a sudden, no one wants to pitch to that team. Hardly anyone does right now.

So what kind of package would the Yanks have to put out there?

Melky Cabrera

Jason Giambi

Humberto Sanchez

for

Mark Teixera

Brad Wilkerson or Nelson Cruz

Looks good to me, and really, it would probably be best for the Rangers as well.

Is Sanchez hurt? If he is, throw in Joba Chamberlein instead.

As for the Astros:

Luke Scott

Brad Lidge

Wandy Rodriguez

Troy Patton

for

Mark Teixera

Akinori Otsuka

Just speculation, so speculate!

I don't know why anyone would want Giambi. I like the second trade if you take out the reliever.

But I also agree with the Dodgers comment, assuming Nomar could play 3rd base. I think the Dodgers have tastier minor leaguers, and 2nd tier major leagues than the Astros.

You wouldn't trade for Tex to DH him, he's a good 1B. You'd trade for him to replace a guy like Doug E. Fresh. Giambi is an elite hitter, Mientkiewicz hits like a bad utility guy.

You wouldn't think that the Rangers would want Giambi's contract, since they are dumping Teixeira's, that doesn't make sense.

I don't see Texas trading a 27 year old superstar, though. This is just a creation of ESPN, and them deciding to pick out a young player that they would like to see in NY.

Good point end.

FWIW, the 'Stros inked Teixeira in my The Show 2006, and that lineup is ridiculous. Just having Berkman & Teixeira in the same lineup is murder. And that's without Carlos Lee - I'd traded him to Arlington (for CoCo & *shudder* Mench), and they managed to re-sign him!

If the Yankees are looking for an available bat to replace Giambi at DH & maybe somewhere in the field, I'd gladly send them Mench:

Yankees get:

Kevin Mench

Brewers get:

50 cases of Johnsonville brats

Verdict: Brewers get the better end of the deal.

Sarcasm aside, it sure seems like Mench could/should be there for the taking. And his salary wouldn't burden the Yankees very much. Just a seemingly logically founded thought.

I too agree with end. If someone thinks they want Teixera, it will take pitching to get him, probably one MLB ready arm and one top level A+ or AA prospect. I believe he can be had right now for the right offer, I do not believe this guy lasts til the trade deadline.

Teixeira is probably going to sign for $20 million or so, so most teams that trade for him would only be getting him for a year and a half. Nobody is giving up a Hughes or Gallardo for that, at least I don't see how anyone can. Plus, Teixeira isn't really all that great. He's very good, yes, but he's overrated because of the park he plays in and the flukey amount of RBIs he had in 2005. Someone will pay him like he's a truly great player though.

Mark Teixera

Akinori Otsuka

for

James Loney

Matt Kemp

Chad Billingsley

Does make a lot of sense for the Dodgers to go out and get a power stick. Not sure Loney is the guy they would want in the trade he has yet to show any power in his game. Dodgers maybe add another pitcher in this trade instead.

The Rangers could have one heck of a fire sale if they keep losing. Not only is Teixera in the last year of his contract, but so is Otsuka and Gagne only has a one year deal and could be open to a trade to a contender.
