Why the Adopt-A-Prospect idea deserves a Second Life

I admit, I am still a bit bothered that this idea was shot down some 18 months ago - namely that each Brewer prospect would have a "sponsor" that would be responsible for maintaining a thread that is dedicated to preserving organized information about them. The prospect I wanted back then - Omar Aguillar - has taken off, and I think it would be great to have a seperate forum where players like Nick Green could have their information stored, so if he were to get called up later in the season, a fan could go to his thread and find that he was Nick Adenhart's roommate last year, and has had to deal with a lot of loss in his baseball career. Instead, this awesome little fact nugget will be lost in all liklihood.

Please bring back this idea, at least, and see if it still has some legs.

Thanks.

I'm currently in the process of re-writing the "main site". Within that framework, i'm adding the ability to link to player videos, photos...etc. I think it would be interesting to incorporate the "adopt-a-prospect" idea into this. In exchange for the user's name being displayed on the player profile page for that prospect, they would be given access to update videos, photos, link to articles, etc about that player... perhaps also, if it's a pitcher, that user could be responsible for updating what types of pitchers (and, if possible at what speed) that player throws.

I'm trying to bring more attention to the "main site", as I think it's just become a shell for the forums, and this might be an interesting way to see if user-generated content like this would be viable.

Probably true. I have my bookmark take me directly to the forums. Is there really anything on the main page to read often enough to make it worth going to? I count like 16 things on the main page all of last year. Nothing between March and October except a draft preview which was probably talked about more in depth in the minor league forum.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I feel the issue that gets overlooked is that Mass Hass already provides all of the media coverage for every single player between the "Your 2009" threads and the link reports. It would just be a matter of consolidating that information by player... there is a wealth of overlooked information on the minor league forum.

Molitor Fan-

I like your idea. Could you look over the Minor League Forum and see if player coverage you are interested in is there? If not, you can feel more than free to start what you are interested in. Perhaps it will tend to draw more interest to the Minor League Forums, which would be great. There is some exceptional work done over there and it deserves more attention.

Brewer Fanatic Staff

So when we locate a hometown newspaper article or some other feature story, are we supposed to forward it to the person responsible for that prospect so they can hopefully post it? Would we still post it on the Minor League Forum so others don't miss it in a timely manner? We're not going to post it in two places.

This would require yet another forum. You couldn't possibly manage it conveniently within the Minor League Forum itself. That is probably the least concern.

MiLB.com's player pages already list stats by month, so even a monthly posting by the responsible thread owner analyzing stats would be more duplication.

We've seen this before, and even at fan sites of "Nations" like the Red Sox, it really doesn't bring anything special or worthwhile.

There's a reason we've been reluctant to see it here.

Molitor, feel free to kick off your Omar Aguilar thread here -- we'll see how it looks. Maybe it will set a standard for many others to follow.
