I just have a hard time believing that Fielder is as "unvaluable" to the team as you are positing. He is going to put up huge offensive numbers again, and his defense seems to have gotten at least somewhat better than last year.

I see him making defensive misplays almost daily. As for huge offensive numbers, I think he will be a little better than last year, but thats still not huge.

 

 

His Win Value isn't something I made up, if you think that is inaccurate, thats more a matter for the folks at Fangraphs. I think his value is actually overrated in Win Values, because theres no adjustment factor in UZR for Fielders complete inability to receive throws, but I'll just stick to their stat for now.

A little better than last year would put him in the .900 OPS range which is an elite hitter in MLB. That's not easily replaced.

True if you look at only offense in a vacuum. However, defense maters. Thats why I have started refering to players by their Value Wins instead of their OPS.

 

I want to alter my original prediction that 7 position players will have at least 3.5 Value Wins, thats a miscount, I mean 6, and Fielder won't be one of them. Hall and Weeks are now more valuable than Prince.
