Ty Wigginton

[ Not by my count. He's started 59 of 61 games (96%) including games at DH, and is third on the team in plate appearences just 15 behind everyday leadoff man Carl Crawford with 255. ]

You're right, my bad. I counted up his games starting in the field without even thinking about the DH.

[ My point was also that Wigginton was a full time starter at 3B for the Mets in 03 and half of 04, when he was traded to the Pirates to make room for David Wright. He then started at 3rd the rest of 2004 for Pittsburgh. Now he's a full time player for the D-Rays and Graffanino is not a full time player for the Brewers. ]

Right, I feel like he's moving down the food chain, and is ripe for pickin's as a bench player on a team with playoff aspirations.

[ The crux is that he is a key element of their lineup and they aren't going to give him away for an older less productive player who's faced mostly LHP this season. As for a "2nd tier" pitching prospect, exactly what is that?

I'm sure the D-Rays are looking for pitching prospects that actually have a decent chance to be solid major leaguers and the Brewers don't want to give those guys up just to marginally upgrade their bench. ]

I had a Zach Jackson in mind, and perhaps a Housman for grins... Basically one of those quantity-for-quality deals that the Brewers did when they were in the Rays' shoes.

What is Al Reyes' value right now? For all intents and purposes, he's a top five closer in terms of ERA and Saves/Save Op's. Remember that there was a gent named Dan Kolb who elicited the top pitching prospect (unless you are a huge Dan Meyer fan) in a stacked org.

He has some value as a setup man for a team in the playoffs. Don't think he will get a boat load of talent because he has those arm issues in the past. I give him 85% that he will be traded this year, D-Rays have no need for a closer till they are in the hunt for the playoffs.

I'm begining to like Mark Loretta a lot more now that he's on another team. Salary wise, he's probably a little more expensive than Wiggington. I would think the Astros would probably ask for about the same type of package deal the D rays would ask for.

i realize the Astros would not want ot trade Loretta to us this month. but as the year plays on, and the Astros are no longer in the chase, he might be available in late August to be able to add for the Division run.
