What would it take to get Justin Verlander?

Ive always liked this kid. Dont bash me for putting this up now, but would would it take to get him next year? Inman or Gallardo and who?

Verlander is in his second full season, he's 24, and he's be very good to this point of his young career. He has the stuff to become an even better pitcher than he has been so far. The only thing he is really lacking is experience, but he's getting more with each start.

Take a look at his stat line:

sports.espn.go.com/mlb/pl...yerId=6341

Not only is he 24 and Tigers property for four full years after this season, but he plays on a team that was in the WS last year is poised to make a serious run at the post season again this year.

The Tigers have no reason to trade him (he is young, cheap, good and their property for 4 more years), and there isn't a return they could realistically get to make their team better.

I don't think the Brewers could make an offer for him that the Tigers would ever consider.

a couple of years ago I floated the idea of trading PFielder for

Catcher Chris Shelton, JVerlander, and CF Nook Logan...

I wonder what would be thought of that trade now, HAD it gone through...

anyone??

trading Gallardo for any young, very promising starting pitcher seems redundant.

No matter what we think about Gallardo, the thing that Verlander has that Gallardo doesn't 45 major league starts and 281 very successful innings.

While you'll never know for sure what the future holds for each, I think it's safe to say we know more about Verlander than Gallardo. And what we know is that he's pretty dang good.

Well, it's basically Fielder for Verlander, Shelton's nothing of consequence, and Logan is just flat-out terrible (a bottom five hitter in all of MLB, most likely). I'd rather have Fielder.

Besides, it's not like Verlander was a nobody... he was a 1st round pick, and at the time you proposed that deal, he probably couldn't even have been traded yet.

No it was after the 1 year draft trade moritorium had been lifted on the 2004 draft class...but you are right he was far from being a nobody...but so was Prince and this was before they traded for Casey, and after CPena kinda flopped...

but interesting all the same...

If Yo is 85% of the pitcher I believe Verlander will be....I'd be jazzed. Verlander has dazzling, overpowering stuff, and a competitive, bulldog mentality.

If Yo ends up in JV's league I'd be thrilled.
