First Baseman Joe Koshansky Claimed from Rangers via Rockies, on 40-man at Nashville

Adam McCalvy's MLB Blog post includes this:

The team also claimed first baseman Joe Koshansky off waivers from the Rangers and optioned him to Nashville, where the Sounds already had a first baseman in former Brave Scott Thorman. Ash said the Brewers could have some further news regarding Thorman later today.

Koshanski, who turns 27 in May, has spent brief stints in the big leagues in each of the last two seasons but spent most of 2008 at Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he batted .300 with 31 home runs and 121 RBIs in just 122 games. He also struck out 158 times. The Rangers claimed him off waivers from the Rockies on March 29 but then needed the 40-man roster spot for a non-roster invitee, according to Ash.

Yeah, when I saw Koshansky's production my first thought was Branyan-lite. Gotta like what Rotoworld had to say:

The Rockies didn't necessarily need the 40-man roster spot, but they did the right thing and gave Koshansky a chance to go to a team that might be able to use him

Guess this means bye-bye to Thorman.

With Koshansky on the 40 man, what are the odds he comes up to do some DHing in the AL parks? He might present even more upside than Nelson in that role considering he'd be seeing regular time in Nashville.

Man, that's a lot of strike outs though, especially for AAA I'd think.
It is, and that fact, combined with the parks he's hit in, really hurts his MLEs. Last three years:

06 .222 / .286 / .376

07 .239 / .303 / .378

08 .247 / .309 / .468

Only that last line even resembles a remotely useful player. He's probably a little better than Thorman, though, so whatever.

So what's Thorman worth in a trade?
