Lots of ideas!

The main reason we'll have to make a deal is that the Cubs and Cardinals will definately be adding players.

We may be the best team in the division now, but a big stick or big arm out of the pen may seperate us from the pack.

Teams that may deal with us:

Baltimore, Toronto, Tampa, Minnesota, White Sox, Royals, Rangers, Marlins, Nats, Reds, San Diego, LA, and Colorado.

Teams that are compatable: Tampa, Minnesota, CWS, Rangers, Nats, SD, LA, Colorado.

*Tampa has the offense to trade Crawford and not miss him a whole lot. A possible deal for him? Hall, Bush, and Parra may get it done.

*Minnesota and San Diego always have relievers that could be available.

*Texas- Gagne cant be in their future.

* Nats- Cordero would look nice.

* Reds need pitching. Bush or Vargas and Jenks for Dunn?

*White Sox need outfielders or a starter. Dye available?

* LA has Bronxton. I want him closing here next year!

Just a few ideas.....

Tampa Bay does seem like a team that may be a match because of their OF surplus and lack of pitching, but I'm sure they want too much for Crawford. Maybe Jonny Gomes or Jorge Cantu for left field if the Brewers trade Jenkins somewhere. I could see one of those guys being had for cheap as the Rays have no room for them. The question is whether either will ever hit again. Still, I would give up Zach Jackson for one of them to find out. I could see Baldelli maybe, but would a team like the Brewers want to take a risk by trading for a guy that is so injury prone?

As for SD, they have many relievers who are pitching quite well, but why would they deal any of them for Brewers trash? They're looking to win the WS this year and their dominant bullpen is a big part of that.

Gagne has the same problem as Baldelli, a small-market team like the Brewers can't afford to give up talent for guys that are that injury prone.

Chad Cordero would be a nice fit, but I'm sure Bowden would ask for Gallardo or Inman or Hall, which I wouldn't do. If they could get him for Jackson and Mench or something, go for it.

Bush and/or Vargas and Jenkins for Dunn would be a dream. Would the Reds be interested? Maybe, but I don't know. They may be looking for higher ceiling guys.

The White Sox will want the moon for Dye considering that he had an MVP caliber year last year. I'd rather get Gomes or Cantu for a fraction of the price.

I don't see why LA would deal Broxton for anything the Brewers would be willing to give up. This is only his second year and he's a strikeout machine. I'm sure they see him as their future closer, they'd want Gallardo in return, which would be a terrible trade for the Brewers.

kind of a side note, but i think the Brewers really need to promote Parra. If he succeeds in AAA, especially as a starter, his trade value would increase drastically

Promoting him too soon won't really help that trade value much, it'll hurt it.

With Crawford signed for a while, he'd fit in great around here.

I'd give up alot for him. But, I'm not Doug Melvin.

A trade of Hall, Villy, Palmisano, and Capellan would be quite a bit. But Hall could play anywhere for them and Villy is the young arm they covet.

Bush easily slides into the long relief role, while Gallardo gets his overdue call.

We wouldn't have to give up Braun or Weeks because they would have those spots filled already.

A outfield of Crawford, Hart, and Jenks would be great for the rest of this year. And, Crawford, Gwynn, and Hart next year would easily be the fastest outfield in baseball.

Why would you give up a young, talented OF (who was just signed to an affordable, 5-year extension), and two nice pitchers just to land a LF? I don't get it. I know Crawford is a good player and all, but that's too much to give for not enough in return. Especially with the pitching. Parra's a lefty for cri-sakes!

Estrada drives me crazy, and that's pretty much Carl Crawford at the plate. Sure, he's fast, but over 3,000+ ML at-bats, he's walked just 154 times. Re-read that. Simply gross, and not fit for lead-off duty. Yes, he's young, and may well improve in this regard (his SLG% has steadily increased each year in his career), but who knows if or when that will happen?

Crawford is a good base-stealer, which cannot be overlooked. Many speedy players simply steal too much, which can lead to gaudy SB totals, but poor %s. Crawford's rate is more than acceptable (245/298 = 82.2%), but if he can't get on base often it won't matter too much.

Ok, he's been able to hit around .300 or slightly higher, but when Crawford slumps, his OBP is simply god-awful. Why give up the farm for him?

Hall has been OK in the outfield this year. Nothing better. Plus, who's to say that last year wasn't an abberation?

IIRC, Crawford has signed for a while too. And, he's had a number of great seasons in a row. Proven.

Sure, we give up some young talent. But we get one of the great players of the game today. People around here don't see Crawford much, but I compare him to Gwynn, but extremely better in every way. Decent power, tremendous speed, .300 hitter, left handed, and makes this team a WS contender right now.

Plus an OPS of .934 vs LHP this year. And an OPS of .955 on the road.

I edited my most recent post - take a peek.

Meh, I don't think so at all. Very good? Perhaps. But we'd have to give up way too much to land a guy that's not elite. I don't dig that approach personally, and to be fair it's subjective based on the valuing of any certain player.

Crawford is really not that much better than Gwynn. Good enough to be a no-brainer to start? Yes. But Gwynn isn't exactly 100% 'oh, he's just a bench guy' either. His OBP is worse than Tony, and defensively it's probably a wash.

I think you need to look beyond the All-Star wrapper when evaluating just how much you'd give up to land a low-OBP speedster. He obviously brings more to the table, but right now, due to his career-best (thus far) .358 OBP (.300 BA), he's at a .858 OPS. And that's with more walks than ever before for Carl. Once he slumps, that OPS will plummet, bc he hasn't yet been able to utilize BBs well to get on base.

.858 is a nice number, but it seems like Crawford really couldn't be producing better than he is right now. .500 SLG, high BA, etc. So if his 'best scenario' OPS is between .850 & .900 is he really an elite player? I say no, and definitely don't want to give up young, affordable talent to net a guy who has no track record of good OBP. The Brewers need (IMO) to continue to build around guys that work their way on-base via the BB.

Crawford - .302/.358/.500/.858

Hall - .252/.318/.402/.718

That's so far this year, and Hall has Crawford matched in the BB category at 20. Bill Hall hasn't yet heated up his bat, and he trails only Prince & JJ in extra-base hits on the Crew. Once he does start really hitting, his OPS will shoot up past or around Crawford's.

But even that's assuming Carl will continue to hit & get on base as well as he is right now (which he looks to be doing about as well as he possibly can at this moment). Once Crawford isn't maxing out, and Hall isn't bottoming out, Hall's value should clearly be higher -- Although I can understand where you're coming from if focusing on the added SB & defensive value (which -defense- too will get better with Hall as he gets more time in CF)

Ok, so I don't just crap on your idea, here goes:

Carl Crawford would make any MLB team a better team, there is no doubt in my mind (like I said, a no-brainer guy to start). I just don't like giving up on both Bush & Hall (or feeling that you'd ship them both off) for one player, who is essentially Bill Hall at their peaks. I'd say right now Hall has more power but it wouldn't surprise me if Crawford passes him eventually (he is only 24...yikes).

And, I would love to trade for Crawford, but right now the parts we should be shopping, IMO are guys like Turnbow and Vargas and Jenks, Mench, etc. But then it's a bit tougher to make a trade. With that organization's immaturity, I wouldn't be surprised to see one of their other youngsters sent packing, before the heretofore unscathed Crawford.

If we could net him for Vargas and, say, Jenks/Mench/Graffy - I'm in. But I bet TB'd want more. Vargas & Hall, ok, but like I said before, it feels like a lateral move, unless Crawford explodes his BB rate.

Bill Hall has developed a power stroke as he's grown fully, that's why I stick by him. It's not that he's not struggling, and we could really use him, but once he gets hitting the ball better, we know he can hit it hard.

If Hall can post a .275/.350/.475 kind of year, I'd say we're in good shape, especially considering how much he'd heat up to catch that. The season is still young!

I really think we need to trade for Buehrle. Assuming we make the playoffs, I really don't like our pitching match ups. This way we would have 2 of our top 3 pitchers who pitched in the WS the last 2 years. He should be reasonable because he is a FA after this year. We rent him for the year and move YO in to the spot next year.

Doug Melvin, whom I tend to trust in such evaluations, although Doug has not been perfect (see: Brady Clark, possibly Turnbow). But that's the kind of thing small market teams need to do, sign players to extensions when possible, sometimes it works out sometimes not.

Hall looks like he's about to go on a tear. He's always been a bit streaky. I tend to think he'll look much better at the All-Star break.

I'd rather have Crawford than Hall. And I would give up Hall and Bush for Crawford if Villanueva continues to shine and Gallardo looks ready. No way would I trade Villanueva though

"Crawford is really not that much better than Gwynn. "

Wow is that wrong. Crawford basically does EVERYTHING better than gwynn, except, perhaps, defense in CF.

I personally think you couldn't get him for what I'd be willing to give up (hall and bush would be a no-brainer deal to me). He's signed to a long-term, friendly contract, he's 25. He's not my ideal top-of-the order hitter (which is why he bats 3rd mostly), but he's a valuable guy, and supposedly a gem in the lockerroom, too. Brewers could have him bat behind Rickie.

I agree with kilgore. We have a solid staff for the grind of 162 games, but other than Sheets, there is no one that just makes you think we can go in and win a playoff game. Suppan has shown to be tougher than nails when the lights turn up in intensity, but another above average arm would be important for going after a series win. It would cost you Mench and Bush plus a nugget like Parra, but that's what you do when you have a deep system and a shot for going for the grapes.
