What is Laynce Nix Worth?

Can we get anything for Laynce Nix?

He has absolutely no future with this team. His real value was that he could play centerfield (Bill blocks him there) And he is also a left handed outfielder (blocked by Jenkins, Gross, and Gwynn)

Are there any comparable RIGHT HANDED outfielders like Nix that some team might be willing to swap?

I would think if Nix was RH, he would have a decent chance of replacing the sad performance that Kevin Mench has been giving us all year.

I can't see why Nix is on our team anymore. He seems the most likely to be traded. (Also, if he gets traded that open a spot for Gwynn in AAA)

He's a decent trade throw-in. I'm assuming he's still with the org because anything approaching a fair deal hasn't come along yet. Melvin's usually pretty fair to players... If a team inquired about him, I don't think Melvin would let much stand in the way of him being traded.

i think he has plenty of value to the Brewers, though i think it's mostly for next year. He can replace Jenkins when he leaves or be a platoon-mate for some RH LF, and rest Hall and Hart. Plus at this point you wonder if Melvin thinks more of Nix than he does Gross.

and it's a bit of a stretch so soon, but if LaPorta is indeed ready to come up by 09, then we're not going to be signing any big-name FAs in the offseason, so it's a great chance for Nix to step in and try to produce.

850 big league at bats

.277 OBP

9 walks in his last 300 at bats

0 walks in 77 at bats last year

That's not going to cut it from a guy that hits for a roughly .240 batting average.Mix in all the injuries,i can't see him being worth much of anything. It's a shame because he looks to be a very good defensive CF and he has some power, but he hits for a poor average, doesn't walk, and K's a ton.

Thats kind of my points though. Those numbers are pretty bad - but so are Kevin Mench's and he is making like 4 million to do that in MLB.

If Nix was RH, I think he could replicate the numbers that Mench is putting up for the big league club. (And at a much smaller price)

It would be great to flip him for a RH version of himself. An AAAA player with limited upside who can platoon with Gross of Jenkins if needed.

Nix's career

OPS vs righties: .718

OPS vs lefties: .505

2007

OPS vs righties: .448

OPS vs lefties: .250

I know Laynce is an athletic and exciting player. I know he's been known to punish the ball in AAA, but he's the dictionary definition of AAAA. His splits aren't even any good...

I'm by no means a Mench fan but, unless you think he's suddenly forgotten how to hit lefties, his splits are at least worth _something_.

Yeah, Mench is much, much better than Nix at the plate. Nix just can't hit ML pitching and his lack pof patience ruins any chance he has of contributing with the bat.

However, you would think that Nix would have value to some team, considering the fact that some of the more advanced defensive metrics have him as one of the 2 or 3 best defensive outfielders in baseball. The Bewers have TGJ as a defensive sub, so they don't need Nix, but surely some team could use him as a poor defensive or aging outfielders legs. Boston has a large share of poor defensive outfielders. So does Cincinnati. The Yankees, Twins, Dodgers, Mariners, and White Sox all have one egregiously terrible fielder. Bonds is often removed in the last inning or two in SF.

Those are the teams I'd be calling if I was Melvin. Maybe he is doing that and nobody is interested though. After all, most teams have a speedy CF who can't hit at all in their system.
