looking at the lineup this is the second time Macha is leading off Kendall which I hope is only an experiment that will not be used once the team starts playing for real. While I love him in the 8 spot, batting someone with limited speed and that last year had an obp of .327 makes little sense. I know in his early days he was a decent leadoff hitter for the pirates, but we can do better. I'd rather see Hart or even Weeks in that role.

While it is pretty apparent that this team doesn't have a clear leadoff hitter, I really don't think it makes a difference. Its been pretty well documented that lineup structure means very little over the course of the season.

Anyone going to be doing Play-by-Play? It really sucks that I can't get radio in my office.

i agree that we don't have a clear leadoff hitter, but i don't think kendall is it. I still think Weeks is the defacto leadoff hitter has he gets on base and has some speed and power. I do hope that at some point Melvin addresses this though (but have been hoping that since we traded pods.

It is only the 2nd week of Spring Training and I am already sick of it.

I am also sick of Jeff Suppan sucking even if it is only Spring Training. San Diego looks like a AA team and Suppan manages to give up 2 walks, two hitys and a HR in 1/3 of an inning.

Considering that the 2 times Kendall has been the leadoff hitter were also days that Weeks wasn't playing, I wouldn't read anything into it.

You have to hope that a healthy Weeks gives you around 140 games (I realize he hasn't done that yet in his career, through combinations of injuries or cold streaks). Assuming that finally comes to fruition, I'm OK with having Kendall as a leadoff option for the other 20 or so games.

Looking over the play by play for this game and previous games, it looks like Corey Hart has been hitting well. For anyone that has actually seen him hitting, how has he looked? Is he swinging at better pitches than at the end of last year?

It is really hard to tell. Even though I haven't seen him personally, he's facing pitchers when they are just getting into pitching form and facing a lot of minor leaguers. From what I heard, Uecker said he put on 25 pounds, that couldn't hurt. Don't look too much into SP production.
