Big League Spring Games -- Minor League Names

Seven-year Brewer farmhand Adam Heether with a double, Brent Krause and Erik Komatsu 0-for-1

One of our readers pointed out that Heether is essentially, Casey McGehee, but without the 40-man roster spot (via the Cubs) and without the opportunity. Check out how eerily similar McGehee and Heether compare statistically in their careers, McGehee does have that emergency third catcher thing on his side for that maybe one game a season...

That Heether/McGehee comparison is interesting. With Counsell on the bench, it seems crazy that they would keep Lamb. I can understand Melvin's desire to keep an injury replacement stockpiled in AAA, but with Heether or McGehee there, what's the point? Let one of the youngsters who is performing better have the bench spot.

It must have been a blast for some of the kids Tuesday night as they contributed in the FSN broadcast game for friends and family. Zelous Wheeler smoked a 9th inning double, Logan Schafer singled in his first at-bat but Heath Bell got him looking to end the game later, and Mike Marseco grounded out in the 9th.

Talk about body-type contrasts -- seeing the stocky Wheeler and the 5'9", 155 lb. Marseco (I became a big fan last season) within minutes of each other at the plate was something...

This is going to sound weird but Wilson didn't look anything like the picture in my mind's eye, I was shocked.

Daron Sutton made a comment or two that indicated he had read our just-posted home page minor league roundtable. Must have done a bit of pre-game research here like the old days, which is cool.

Brent Brewer is now 3-for-3 with an OPS of 3.000 with the big league team this spring. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Again from our boy McCalvy, who henceforth will simply be "Adam" in 2009:

David Riske, Todd Coffey and Jorge Julio are scheduled to work an inning apiece behind Yovani Gallardo, who is down for five innings or 75 pitches. Lindsay Gulin is in reserve if they need him.

Besides Gulin, Wes Littleton and Carlos Corporan, minor leaguers Adam Heether and Logan Schafer also quietly made the trip to L.A. They'll be in uniform tonight and tomorrow against the Dodgers (Schafer has Ben Sheets' old No. 15; Heether is No. 14) and will also work out in San Francisco with the team on Sunday before heading out. Heether will report to Triple-A Nashville and Schafer to advanced Class A Brevard County.

Schafer heading to high-A to start the season after only 43 games in low-A. And rewarded with a Dodger Stadium gig? Way to go, kid.
