While I too am disappointed in the Brewers medical staff, I can't fault them in this situation. Getting the mother of all concussions from landing on your butt isn't exactly normal, and Koskie went from specialist to specialist before he found one who could diagnose his extremely rare condition.
I will admit I had a hard time buying it. I've watched the replay of that play a few dozen times - NEVER understood how the heck that concussion could have happened.

His neck snapped back, I don't know if his head ever hit but he probably damaged where his spine connects to his brain with the whiplash that occured during the play.

 

Someone with a better knowledge of that area of the body could probably give more detail but I'd guess that's what happened.
