If Koskie shows he can play, I'd love to have him back as a backup at 1b/3b in AAA to get his game back. I like Lamb, and I'm satisfied with Hall, but I just think Koskie's defense, OBP, and left-handed stick are great fits.

I guess I had a different reaction when I read the article.

"this week Koskie said he's been symptom free for more than a month."

I have a hard time justifying Koskie playing some glorfied exhibition games when the dude has taken 3 years to recover from his last concussion.

The play that put him out did not even look at bad. I've taken harder spills getting out of bed in the morning. I'd want no part of scrambling the rest of his brain. I can't believe they are actually letting him play. One more reason not to like the WBC.

If he is cleared to play he is cleared to play, and its nobody's decision besides his.

Looking at Canada's roster at the infielders it looks as if Koskie may be their best option. Two 1B's in Monreau and Votto. Barnwell and Orr probably are probably playing the middle infield. Don't know who Iorg (is this Garth's kid?), Bowman, or Clapp are though.

Oh my...that must be Stubby Clapp. I remember seeing him the year he was playing for the Cardinals, and laughing hysterically when his name was announced at Miller Park. He's a middle infielder type.

Good news. I hope that he can catch on with some team and make it back to the majors someday. Its a shame that his career was derailed because of one play.

It isnt really a shame that one play derailed his career, it happens to a lot of players in a lot of sports. It is a shame that the one play almost derailed his life. I am happy that he is coming back, and at 35, if he can hack it, Id welcome him back and send Mike Lamb packing.

Looking back that was just a swell move by Doug. Koskie was a perfect fit at the time. It's too bad for him and the Brewers that he had such a serious injury. Hopefully he'll be fully healthy going forward, regardless if he ever plays baseball again.

That gives me pause, too. If I'd been woozy for the better part of three years, I'm thinking I would maybe want to be symptom free for maybe a couple of months, at least, before resuming baseball. However, I'm not Corey and I'm not privy to the medical advice he's received.

Good luck to him.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Really good article on yahoo today about Koskie and his progress back to being in playing shape. Sounds like he has only been symptom free for a short time, but it comes after getting referred to a whiplash specialist and trying a new type of therapy focused more on his neck muscles and less on his head/brain.

Everything I've ever known, I've learned from Brewerfan.net....Seriously though

Am I wrong or is that link on the front page of yahoo sports to the article a picture of Gabe Gross?

I am pretty sure it was Gross in the previous picture. They must have changed the picture late last night to that picture you posted, trw.

Its baseball, its not like he is marching onto a football field or a boxing ring. He isn't being irresponsible, he loves the game, feels healthy and wants to show his national pride. Family man or not, how many of us play hurt for pointless bar league softball game? Are we irresponsible? No, we just love to play the game. I am happy for him and think he could be a positive influence on Lawrie and some of the other young guys.

Alson Nelson Cruz is on the DR team that should just roll thoughout the tourney. They are just loaded!

Plus Koskie stands to make quite a bit of additional money if he can indeed come back and play reasonably well. Its worth the risk IMO. So long as he is symptom free of course.

If I was in his position I would also try to come back Heck even if he gets the major league minimum that still helps his family out a ton.

Koskie's made over $26 million in his career. If he's made that much money and blown it that another $1M is really important to his family's welfare he really screwed the pooch.

It's hard to argue that $1M would be worth blowing another 2 1/2 years of his life if he takes another hard shot to the head.

If he wants to play in the WBC so he can say he went out on his own terms fine, but I think he's crazy if he wants to do more than that.

And I don't know how anyone can seriously compare playing "hurt" in a softball league to what Koskie's doing. Unless you were in a coma for two years due to a softball related accident the two scenarios are not comparable.

You're right. But a third baseman is always diving for balls. Seems to me that would rattle around the brain a quite a bit. How many times is a third baseman going to dive for a ball during the course of a season?

That isn't taking into account any plays at the plate, other baserunning events, or getting hitting by a pitch too close to the cranium.
