Brian Roberts Signs 4/$40M extention with Baltimore

It's more than I'd pay for him, but he is a good player, has been pretty healthy the last couple years, is adored by the fans, and Peter Angelos' favorite player of non Greek heritage. It's really a 5 year deal since it doesn't kick in until 2010. I think he should stay a good player for the next 3 seasons, so even if he's not much the last two seasons, the fans won't mind.

 

But maybe the best reason to sign him is there is no one in the organization to replace him. It's like the Mora situation several years ago. The Orioles simply don't have any position prospects. At least non that are not named Wieters. For this reason they'll probably pick up Mora's option for 2010 if he anywhere near average this year.
